That is such a gross connector.
Good to know about the 18" lengths. I’m sure we can find a continuous roll somewhere.

I think there are other vendors of this kind of thing for speaker wire, maybe without being pre-cut into sections. Taperwire and Ghostwire are some brand names I’ve come across.
I’ve never seen anything this small, but if exists it’s just a manner of figuring out the magical AliExpress keywords
This is all basically just using a real wire and taping over it
Tarck is about overthinking it.
Gum wrappers stuck on with gum probably would work
Taking a short break from bag repair:
I got a cheap seized Sturmey AG a while back, and decided I’d unbolt it this morning to see what was making it lock up.
These early industrial age hubs might weight a ton(ne), but they’re pretty easy to repair unless someone drives a spike through the rotor windings (this one was seized because the dynamo is filled with grime. Easy enough to repair; easier than repairing the last one, which had rusted solid and had to be wirebrushed clean before the rotor would turn again.)
Are these the ones that you need a 'keeper" when you take them apart or the magnets lose their juju
I’m in the process of dynoing all the things. Is there any significant difference between the various Shimano hubs? As far as I can tell, DH-3D72 vs Alfine DH-S501 vs XT DH-T8000 basically comes down to a relatively insignificant amount of weight.
I’m not really willing to spend SON dollars on this bike; but is there any reason I’d want to go with a Shutter or Kasai over Shimano? This is for a commuter/occasional overnight camping bike in usually-dry california.
Yes. I made a keeper out of strap iron when I took apart the last one, so all (fsvo “all”) I have to do is find it and then I can pop the rotor for cleaning.
Shimano all the things unless you need son form factor.
Also I think they’re at 3ND80 or whatever it is now.
DH-3D80 was discontinued a few years ago but as far as I can tell DH-T8000 is the exact same thing with a different logo on it
There’s some minor finish and machining differences to what looks like the same raw hubshell forging, but as far as a can tell from all of mine they’re otherwise the same.
xt has an aluminum axle. i think that’s all
Did anybody here ever fuck with one of the Forumslader kits? I’m pretty sold on it as the only good/modern dynamo charging option and it would be nice to be able to carry a smaller(ideally no) battery pack. Looking for trusted (i.e. tarck) opinions.

Here’s a non tarck user, in AU.
I unbuilt my wheel with the dead SP and destructively took the thing apart. The wires that connect the inner dynamo bits to the terminal were broken.
nice! I should do this to my dead SP, the bearings were shitting out and eventually (probably due to water ingress) something froze to something else destructively and the wheel totally locked itself up. when I got on and rode it for about 10 seconds whatever it was broke free and the hub spun but stopped making power.

Thanks Rusty
