They’re the p45s - I do love these fenders, they look good, perform well and are light. They go on pretty easy too, though I ultimately made a couple hacks on mine: I removed some little “safety clips” from the front fender mounts, as I didn’t really see the point in them, and I also cut the tops off some of the little plastic ends that the mounting ‘spokes’ slide into to get the fenders looking a little more round. YMMV of course.
@RJ - I don’t think we’ve met, but FYI I ride a few bikes around town. When the weather doesn’t mandate the Panasonic I’m usually on a black Sputnik with red Velocity Aeroheads, or riding long-distance on a gray 1984 Trek 520. I think the last time I was in your shop I picked up a San Marco Rolls for the Sputnik; I love that saddle! And thanks for the compliments on the Panasonic; I skipped the cable stops because (1) I got lazy and it was easier to run the whole cable rather than using the stops and (2) my stand works best when clamped to the top tube, which doesn’t work out too hot if the cable is running exposed on the underside.
@Walrus - thanks for the insights. My main reason for replacing the wheels is that I doubt that they have much life left. They’re pretty beat up and I’m not sure they’ll survive any major truing efforts. I kept them on this long because when I put them on the bike they miraculously lined up into one of the straightest chainlines I’ve ever seen. But maybe I’ll have someone give them a second look and consider the fixed conversion, given my whole “minimal costs” approach with this bike.
Next up: nail polish to touch up/protect the exposed parts of the frame - this thing’s definitely got some chips.
Dude. I’m sure I know you. You’ve probably already seen pictures of me on here (my avatar at least). I used to have a Sputnik. Nice bikes. I bent the shit out of the rear triangle on mine. Yours sounds familiar although there are a few around town like that. Is yours an older one when they still came with Easton forks?
Anyway, introduce yourself if you see me around, it’d be nice to meet you. If you see a pearl white Alien with a Regal and Phils to Fusions, A Grey/purple Soma Double Cross with an Arione, a stickered up Scrambler with electric blue rear veep, or a pearl blue MKE bruiser locked up, thats me.

[] I know a lot of folks don’t go with drops on winter bikes; are there any major benefits of flat bars over drops in winter conditions? I know the typical pros/cons of flat v. drops, I’m just curious if winter weather changes the game enough to warrant the time/cost of swapping them out.
[] Has anyone put mud guards on SKB fenders? They’re not set up for them, but I was thinking of rigging something up with a combination of zip ties, old inner tubes and a drill.
[*] I also want to put some straps on the pedals. RJ, can I ask what shop you’re at? I’ve got a good guess but wanted to make sure. I’d like to swing by and check out those Hold Fasts as they look pretty nice.

Thanks,[/quote]
Drops will be fine. I went with risers this year because the winter bike ain’t exactly about going fast. I had drops last winter and it was fine.
I have two sets of those fenders both of which I’ve modded to accept mudflaps with a drill and a small bolt. Works fine.
Just get a regular clip/strap setup. Don’t overpay for those ridiculous hold fast straps.
Eat dick.
Your screen name is the same a my girlfriend’s nickname and that kinda weirds me out.

edit: my stance on drops and winter riding:
know the consequences of every shift in the body position. For the way I ride, drops are the most useful on flat hardpack with minimal turns.
I prefer flat bars, because I find them easier to bail off of.
Fenders showed up today (Got some planet bike ones coz cheap @ bike tires direct)
Wanted some WTB All terrainasaurus’ but ended up with some cross wolfs.
Anyways, I’m gonna take the 27" fork off my retro direct and put it onto my Alien for winter (if it all fits, otherwise… I’ll just buy a new fork). Then Ima switch out my front wheel to a crappy one so when/if I use the brakes it doesn’t grind off ma powdercoat! Then switch out the Brooks for some crappiness.
Elderberry… how you likin this weather! You guys get any accumulation down there?
I know there are a few Sputniks around the city, I’ve spotted 'em before. Mine is probably the newest kid on the block (2009 model) and still has a lot of stock parts. It has drops right now but I might be switching to horns at some point.
I think I recognize you from the avatar but it’s hard to say. Regardless, I’ll watch for those bikes, or ask for you next time I’m in the shop! I realized after my previous post that I’ve been there several times since buying the Rolls, but all for miscellaneous parts.
Anyway, sorry to everyone else for derailing a little bit. Carry on.

Thanks. Will probably swap them out when I come across some free/cheap upright bars.
Cool, good to know, I was a little worried that the plastic might crack when I drilled it but I’ll give it a shot.
I’m just trying to avoid the clips because I want to be able to wear larger boots/shoes sometimes - I like the flexibility of a strap only solution. But $50ish is probably a bit much to spend on straps for a $50 CL bike.
Done.
Is it even weirder then that my screen name is based on my nickname, which is also Smash?
foot warmth with my quite breathable sidis: get something for inside or outside the shoe? main problem is wind, so probably get a cover of some sort? also, tomorrow night is p-clip fender jury rigging night. still toying with the idea of a “winter bike,” as i dont really want to deal with babying my rossin every day.
If your commute is long water/windproof shoe covers and smart wools.
Always plan in case you need to change a flat and you have to sit idle for 20 mins. Consider that. Most of my teammates ride with snow/ski helmets and ski goggles up here.
Two pairs of ski goggles are crucial for when it’s snowing like crazy or the cold air burns your eyes. Shade/colored lens for daytime and clear/amplified for night.
I rode with just glasses last winter but I will be looking for goggles this winter. Getting to a red light and having your eyelids freeze together is not fun.
Just glasses for me. There were maybe two days last winter I wished I had goggles. I don’t wear a neck/face covering of any kind 'til it’s crazy cold, either. Guess my face is hardened to the elements or something.
