Let's talk about cycling foods!

It’s all meat dude. CHOMP IT.

No eyeballs/faces in the sardines I buy at Trader Joes… it would be pretty weird to chomp them though. High in nutrients though I bet!

cue Abe’s sardine blog:

http://www.sardinesociety.com/

i likes the dried salmons

and cashews

and whatever bennett brings with him

where do you get dried salmon? is it smoked or what?

just got done making this (sardine and avocado sandwich):

so good. thanks for the link to that sardine blog… i think i’m gonna start eating hella sardines.

sup moranis

i tend not to eat for most rides, since most rides i do are 1-2 hours. for the 50 mile hammerfest group ride ill usually stick some honey packets in leg grippers of my bibs. for the occasional sunday long ride, either a clif bar or some fig newtons and half/half powerade/water. after rides i almost always eat a banana or some sort of fruit, and some chocolate soymilk for that carb/protein ratio recovery goodness. i have some hammer gels and shit that ive been saving for an upcoming 62 mile hilly road race.

yeah, brined and smoked. dont smoke the belly coz too oily. (just eat that in yr sushi)

if you’re buying sardines get bela. they are portuguese sardines, caught fresh and cooked in the can almost immediately. the tomato flavor is the best, but they have lemon, olive oil and a chili pepper. the flavor is much more mild than what you are probably used to with american sardines.

also snackmasters makes a tuna and a salmon jerky, but the shit tastes like wood.

I’ve never had a flavored sardine that was tasty. Will try bela. Sad part about really decent sardines and herring is that they’re hella expensive. Trader Joe’s actually carries a high quality variety of herring for a bit cheaper. I’m sure they imported it themselves. Way better than the most common US brands. I’m making that sardine avocado thing. Also, Alton is looking pretty fit.

those bela are really delicious.

i also liked pickled herring in amsterdam. yumz.

i’m not sure i can find these locally :frowning:

i did find these, though (they seem legit):

This.

I’m trying to buy some Clif bars in bulk. I’ll likely start eating them as snacks in front of the computer and finish the box before a single ride though.

looks like tarck’s new mascot is going to be a canned sardine.

not vegan enough.

What, this forum makes canned sardines?

tarck is about moving beyond

True story: Ikea has very good pickled herring. I get mine from this Norwegian boutique grocery store kind of place here in Oakland.

what is the deal with sardines also being called herring? does herring sometimes refer to sardines? how can you tell?
