Luxos U Warranty Chat

I know that bike.

Whoa. Looks cool

Who has a bike like that built with cantis???
Also, are they running disk rims?

they’re HED Belgiums that have a brake track

just not machined

I’m wondering if their IQ-X is a prototype model since it lacks the triple slits on the side that mine has. Hose clamp is a clever idea if you ever need to replace the plastic band.

^ he’s wmderosset on the instagrams; would probably tell you the story
Preemptively hoseclamping all b&m plastic mounts is not a bad idea. Especially for a bike like that.

We tried to talk Will into discs for that bike but he was adamant about cantis. That’s actually V.2 of that bike, the first was even more rando and after a bunch of crashes we convinced him to allow the next iteration to be a bit more progressive off-road.

I haven’t talked to him yet but he broke the IQ-X mount bikepacking in the San Juans on I think either the Colorado Trail or Hermosa Creek Trail.

I believe the whole mount is metal now:

That dude is a righteous kook.
I approve of the cantis now.

Is the iq-x completely aluminum? I’m not gonna buy another luxos for the h/g because I had to warranty one already, and I don’t think it could stand up to 10 foot drops at speed. It’ll be mounted to the orcrack, so the stock bracket will likely be trashbinned.

It’s either gonna be that or the cyo premium.

edit: I still don’t really approve of the cantis, not on the CT. That dude is insane. (hopefully he’ll be at the border patrol ride (hopefully I will too))

disclaimer: I like cantis.

I used to like cantis just fine until I rode hydro disks almost exclusively for some years and now when I ride my Boulder, I’m like “LOL good thing Chicago is flat!”
And yeah, the IQ-X is all aluminum and seems just better made in general than the Luxos. The mounting band is the obvious weak point and I don’t expect mine to survive the coming winter.

This has me brainstorming better mounting options for my light. I still wish there was a better solution to lights coming with crown oriented mounts and the mounting holes on the racks are oriented 90 degrees to that.

the iq-x I used for commuting last winter is still working fine, I’m not the rowdiest rider, but it seems pretty well built.

FTFM

hopping on my canti-equipped tandem for the first time in 5 years was really eye opening. That thing just don’t wanna stop, ever. And I remember riding down bumpy mountains, fully loaded with camping gear, at 55mph. Jesus fuck I was a madman.

I have cantis on my Fredsled, and whenever I get on it, I am amazed at how well they work.

Suck it, nerds.

The tandem is using some really shitty tektro levers and I feel like the have the wrong ratio or something. I distinctly recall having to pull the lever so goddamn hard that after 10 days my left hand was cramped and sore for weeks after the trip. Add in circa 2011 Doug’s moronic, incompetent ideas of how a cockpit should be set up and I’m glad I didn’t kill myself and my wife.

I am getting a dyno hub on my endpoint.
other than that I have no clue what to do to turn it into a light.
I was going to buy http://harriscyclery.net/product/busch-mller-eyc-led-headlight-4435.htm and a taillight.
What else do I need to buy to make it work?
I would really prefer it if I could just plug shit in so would pay more for wires and shit that dont require nerd level fuckery.
