Yeah wtf. How did we start talking about cyclocross bikes and tires? You want to race cross? Buy a $200 aluminum frameset and some box section tubulars. I’d never do cx on my apparently crippled yolobike. Hilarious to even think about.
this thread is about mig mega trollin
dyin
Best thing is that, for all his trollin Mig is actually layin down some kms
ftfy
i am so fuckin hungry
on top of brekky, lunch, and dinner
the physical charistics of stays are not changing… just the cross brace of the whole jibber jabber is getting much stronger. but yeah po-tay-to po-ta-to. we’re saying the same thing
Of course but there are certainly limits to things especially when talking large variations in terrain.
That’s smart but sounds like a pain in the ass. Having to make those kind of component changes while a clever bit of engineering really just drives home the homercar aspect of things. I love the artist formerly know as the rusty trombone the way it is. Swapping parts annoys me just thinking about it.
Had another headset baseplate, took like 10 minutes:
It did handle better in a few places on the trail, but some of that is from dropping near 3lb off the front end.
Handling with the fat tires on some familiar steep twisty roads was garbage with the XC tires though, came really close to laying it down.
It’s probably not something I’d bother with switching out much, except maybe for cross season
fred is the a-c on tetanusbike 396ish?
10 minutes too long! I have to work on other people’s bikes all day long. I hate doing unnecessary shit to my own.
too bad we are not the same height and not on the same coast though. would like to ride that bike. you would also be very stoked on endpoint monstercross irl
can it porteur shit?
I’d hit it.
obligatory straight post complaint

ATMO
the normal steel fork is around that, and makes it 73deg/65mm with ~73mm of BB drop
the crabon fork is 415ish? and makes it 72deg/45mm with ~63mm of BB drop
Woah. Hi Jimmy and evil mike.
fred
whats the angles on yr homermobile?
asking coz i can’t get the idea outta my head to have davidson built a high rake fork for my bike, maybe 55mm
it’s 43.5 chainstay and 73* head angle and built for 700c, 43mm rake now and i think front center is 602mm
built for 57mm brakes
but i’d need to snag my bros tig welder to build a front rack first though
how low trail should i go if i did this…
not really looking for porteur…more sweet mini rando
btw this thing handles pretty ok with a small rear pannier
ps i’d have him braze bosses on top of the fork crown on each side and bolt the rack there up top
and according to heatheory my 58mm trail bike should handle fine with a small front load
but i can say right now with where i sit on the bike it actually handles best with a small bit of weight in the rear…
That’s almost exactly like my Nordavinden, which has 430 chainstays, 73 head angle and a whopping 70mm of offset. 32mm trail with 32s. Can be squirrelly, especially with 28s, but overall solid bike. Definitely need to always have a bag to tame it, but I’ll take that small drawback for the ability to carry 25 lbs up front with no appreciable difference in handling.
Having ridden Fred’s yolobike on single track it handles really good. It was really weird to see a rack in my field of vision but only issues I had were pedal strikes and not being able to do some log crossings without the chaining taking a nice bike bite of log.
