It doesn’t go with this outfit, but it does stretch to cover my giant 60 cm head, and the flap goes all the way over my ears. The brim is stiffened and big enough to keep snowflakes and other undesirables mostly at bay. Its composition and overall look is a bit more "technical/ synthetic/ neo-retro " than “classic/ wool/ retro-retro”. It’s warm; I can feel the merino pleasantly toasting my head. I will report on how it works later on when it’s super cold, but i anticipate that it’s going to be great.
Got this fucker today:
I don’t normally enjoy a dog’s balls warmth (all my puppies have vaginas), but I would liken the feeling of the sugoi cap to head for your head, dome for your dome, a blowjob for your noggin.
Rode it in the rain immediately afterwards. I have some alpaca cannondale joint and my walz. The bill helped tremendously, the cap got moist but didn’t soak through. I’d still reccommend something over it for heavy rain. This is the only cap i will use for the next few months.
edit: the sugoi logo bugs me, but i’ll get over it. the merino makes it worth it.
This has been my experience. I’ve worn it every day for a week, and I love it. The logo is so slight that it’s practically invisible, so I can’t complain about that. The merino is soft and warm, and though I haven’t had opportunity to ride it in the rain yet, I think it will perform perfectly. Incidentally, riding in the rain is another reason why I wanted a stiff bill as opposed to just a fabric one.
Too many cycling caps are like this, basically all the new ones designed primarily by fashion and made by relative novices (either to sewing, cycling, or both). The reasons you gave are exactly why I insisted that the cap have a stiff bill.
Any of you suckers used any of the cheap winter caps from Prenda’s? I don’t really care what they look like, since they’ll mostly be worn while cycling/winter running, but I do want/need something that will keep rain/wind/snow from fogging/moistening/snowing my glasses/eyeballs/face. They don’t say what they’re made out of, nor do they show them on an actual human head. $15 is better than $40 though, so if they’re nice enough I’ll just get one of those.
The Sugoi looks awesome, but I just have a hard time spending money on a cap that will spend a majority of its life being sweat soaked.

Go for it. I’d spend a little more and get this style though.
I’ve been happy with my Walz cap I got at my LBS. It’s pretty thin, wool, fits under the helmet, but somehow manages to keep my ears fairly warm. I like that the ear flaps wrap around the back and have elastic. Can also be tucked back into the cap and used as a normal cap.
I love my wool Walz cap.
I wear it all summer with the flaps up, and then all winter with them down.
i have a gazelle cap with very similar design. i don’t know. maybe it’s too small or something. it’s ok when i’m walking around but as soon as i get on my bike, having to look up to see shit makes the hat ride up and uncover my ears. pretty annoying having to pull it down every minute. need something different.

feelin’ that hat. how much room do you have with stretching
I’m pretty sure my head is 60+ cm
if it’s tight i get a headache
but my ears are getting fucking cold
or rudy can i try on your rapha?
fucking sucks ordering caps with this huge fucking head + huge fucking hair
that’s what I’m afraid I’ll have to do if I want to fit it in something under my hellmut
lov my hair
although it is falling out and I’m about to make a thread about that
If you’re over 30 you will find some support for hair loss in the geezers of tarck thread. (If not, get off my lawn)
I rode 100 km in my rapha hat on the weekend, in cold rain with sunny periods. It worked great, giving off that toasty, slightly itchy feeling that wool does when it gets wet. On my head it’s near its limit for stretchiness but it’s not cutting off circulation or anything. There must be room for another cm or two of skull in there, but that’d start to push it.
The flaps do ride up every once in a while but it’s not too annoying… hardly a once a minute thing. Maybe once every half hour?
I wasn’t wearing a helmet, I wonder if the flaps’ riding up would be any better or worse with straps over top of them.
Will report back when I go for a below freezing ride in this thing.
Agreed. Though I have a regular noggin. Bought 4 of them at the start of spring and wore the hell out of all of them. Will probably place an order for a couple of winter caps so if you don’t pull the trigger now, I’ll let you know how they are in a couple of weeks.
but i don’t know if i should buy the rapha one, the woolly one bold raves about, or one of them joints from the link ckd posted.
(ckd, great link, i really wanted to buy something like that forever)
also i have the summer version of that kelme winter hat on prendas.
