nothing a little metal file can’t fix
how will a file fix this? am i just drunk right now and missing something?

also, shifters.
with 46/30 nerd rings on the 94 BCD spider the 54BCD bosses/nubbins/spots may start to hit the frame before true nerd crank low Q nirvana is achieved, in which case a file may help.

Alternatively the, for want of a better term, intrinsic Q of the crank set, that is the offset between the chain rings and the pedal interface may be such that with the rings in the right spot (or even almost rubbing on the chain stays) the Q factor is still unacceptable. I guess you could file the crank arms down at the pedal threads to move the pedals inboard but that’s probably not the best idea.

there may be other more creative uses of files for reducing Q factor that i am unaware of

edit: i’m no shifter doctor though (ILU Tarck)

ah, right. nubbins. i’m flashing back to the sugino mighty tours i used that were designed around a 126 bike and couldn’t be made to play with a 135 bike.

Maybe I read your comment wrong, but “needing too much spindle” as in there’d be a tite gap between the crankarm and the chainstay? or something else? Maybe you meant chainline (file not gonna fix that)

When did the OX cranks change to a hollow forged arm? My old 901s and newer (bought before recall but not recalled) 601s are “C” shape forged arms, like tiagra cranks.
Honestly was just a guess on my part that something jangling inside must mean hollow forge, or at least hollow something.

DQ: should I run TA style cranks on my serotta?

why not

Yes. They look awesome.

The Adventure nerd cranks have delivery pushed back to the 25th on April.

30-46 lyfe with the metreas from bike24 incoming:

Pulled the outer chainguard which was surprisingly heavy. Installed a 30t XT ring. Both inner and outer rings are 74bcd, second hole/cutout in the big ring is just to mount the chainguard.

What does the metrea weigh in at in guardless 46/30way?

955g including the nds arm & fixing bolt-- the pics are in that flickr album I linked to. I have no idea how that compares to other options.

Ah, didn’t click thru as on spotty wifi in the boonies.

OX601D is 925g with BB and 145mm Q, so for ~2/3 the price (if euro sourced vs endpoint sourced) you add 25g and get a Q of 158mm. I think they’re priced high in the market really, especially compared to tiagra cranks (equivalent level non hollow arm double)

Iirc dura ace 50/34 weighs a solid 200g less than the ox601. I know this because I was trying to weight weenie winter2

Yeah they do seem priced high, expect them to probably go down as they get closed out down the road, but still seems like the best option for me at the moment-- I’m a sucker for Shimano cranks and the wider Q is actually fine with me biomechanically. Having just put a new 4700 tiagra compact on my other bike for like 60 euro that stuff is really really nice, wish they would have just done a super compact in that group or similar style non-series…

In the same boat, been pretty happy with my other Shimano cranks, so Metrea seemed like a reasonable way to get lower gearing for an H/G. Mostly I wish they would have done the hollow-forged arms on them. Supposedly there’s a 105-level subcompact crank coming later, maybe it’ll get more bling.

sweet merciful lord let it be true

Weirdly I want this to be true as well but then I remember that I don’t actually like the Q factor of road cranks and would probably just use MTB cranks on a ditherer

I’m not too stoked on the 50/34x11-32 collabo currently on the Haanjo, would a subcompact and 11-28 be any improvement? A 105 subcompact would be perfect if that’s the case.

Are you getting really far out rad? 34-32 as a small gear is great for most things gravel and rando. Why not a road link and an 11-40?

I’ve been incredibly satisfied loaded & unloaded w/ 50/34 11-36 albeit 10 speed.
