Nerd Crank Chat

Was it Stan? Stan’s a pretty nice guy. He might help you out.

his name was Dan something.

OK, so I got this response:
Rudy,

Yes there is a recall on these cranks. You will need to send the left arm and right arm(w/spindle) to us and we will get a new set of arms sent out. Please keep the chainrings, bolts and bb cups. We will also need an address to send new arms.

Please return to:
Merry Sales Company

South San Francisco, CA 94080
Now the question is, will I get it together to send these things to california?
Maybe.

if you dont you can send them my way

Why do you not like nice, free things, Rudy?

If you haven’t done so when I swing through Illinois in May, I will take them off your hands.

That’s a deal Frank. Let’s get beers regardless.

For sure! Somewhere between May 15-19 I’ll be in Illinois. Doing a gravel ride around Elisabeth, IL/driftless area of the state, so hills! on Saturday May 20. Then headed to Bloomington, IN for rhetoric nerd camp May 21-25.

What ride? Got a link? My fave gravel ride didn’t happen this year!:frowning:

Not sure if this works for you. Claims to be invite only for now, coz unsanctioned and don’t want 200 yahoos showing up. Otherwise, I can get you more info later.

Real nerd crank chat tho:
swapped a frame for a set of ritchey logic 110/74 , will see if they nerd crank any better than the shimano M730 110/74.
i know they’re not “proper” nerd cranks, but damn if they don’t look really nice, beautiful finish even on the back, nice radii on machined corners, materials enginerd approved

My ox601d’s showed up, but sadly the hollow forge nds arm had some loose material jingling about inside. LBS will be calling about it this week to see what’s up, guessing merry sales will just send a new one my way.

I have a Sugino Mighty 900 crankset in the parts bin, 94 bcd. Going to try them with a 46/30, but maybe needs too much spindle for full nerd?

You sure those aren’t the washers on the pinch bolts janglin’? I almost freaked out because I thought the same thing.

nothing a little metal file can’t fix

No washers on mine, and bolts were snugged to check. Definitely material inside. Merry Sales already has another headed my way though.

I thought the same thing with mine. If you don’t torque the bolts to spec the washer will rattle and the arm will start to walk off the spindle.

how will a file fix this? am i just drunk right now and missing something?

also, shifters.

When did the OX cranks change to a hollow forged arm? My old 901s and newer (bought before recall but not recalled) 601s are “C” shape forged arms, like tiagra cranks.
