Well shit. Mebbe when I get group swapped over to rebuilt Davidson I’ll sell of the Merckx frame and fork and build some ridiculous modern crabon thing instead. Maybe it’s the beers, but this this is giving me quite a bit of it right at the moment.
much dithering after totaling the charge juicer i had. i have a giant tcx that’s got a tapered head tube, but 1 1/8 - 1 1/4. i managed to find a new caadx fork that fit and was supposed to race it this past season but never finished/raced it because i got sick multiple times and too lazy. its 1x10 apex but throws the chain all the time. i could swap my force/rival drivetrain from the charge onto it and deal with riding it on the road, but its kind of my red headed step child. i don’t want to put much effort into it (have to get a FD, cables, etc) and not sure i want to do cross anymore. but also not sure i want to go through the hassle of selling and taking a bath on it.
ive been scoping cheap road bikes since i’m impatient and don’t have a lot of cash on hand. theres a raleigh clubman frameset for 250 on CL right now, or there’s always the honky tonk. really just want a sweet alu race frame for summer radness and save fender worries for winter, but can’t afford one yet.
So much back and forth with the Paramount. I have most of the parts to switch to Shimano, but I don’t want to 'cos Campy looks better on it. Seriously, that’s the ONLY reason.
What’s wrong with me?
And then there’s the ‘I miss having a fat tired road bike’ thing going on in my head…and then there’s also the ‘a 17lb crabon missile with 6800 would be fun’ idea floating in my head.

maybe should sell cross bike after all?[/quote]
Just go to Bike Swap, dude. It will not be “summer” until July.
that I thought I couldn’t attach a rear rack to,
but I figured out
that circle in the dropout will perfectly fit a recessed brake nut.
so I’m gonna spraybomb it and build it up rigid and attach all of the babbyseats.
I’m very stoked.
Ok, if I do get one it will be for commuting and weekend one or two night camping trips. Gimme tips on my best bet for front rack/bag for a Vaya that can handle overnight camping trips that involve sleeping in a hammock. Or some other setup for pretty light camping.
If nothing else those photos are cool as shit. Thanks for sharing. We got an eno hammock for a wedding present though so for summer solo camping I reckon I can make do with that.

dithering.
I also have one of these framesin XXL and a lugged 26" LHT fork
which I think would look pretty boss together
and could build up pretty easily
talk me out of this? also: are there any cheaper alternatives to a Paul Motolite where I could run 650bs and V-brakes on this? I have boxes of old cantis and Vs, I’m sure something will work.
My GT has a 700c LHT fork that I reraked for low trail; a bmx caliper just barely reaches to the (650b) rim. So a 26" rim might just work for you™ with either a medium reach caliper or some longish V-brakes.
