Hmm… Considering a 7800 build for the Davidson. Should I bother with the pusher though? That plating always seems to flake and look shitty.
do 7900 shifters imho
Would be 7800 downtubes and silver Cane Creek levers taken off of another bike.
The plan would be to then throw shakes on that bike, so 7900 could be in the running there.
I’ve been without a cross bike or an offroad adventure machine (what the fuck ever you want to call it), so I was considering a Specialized AWOL Comp (the nicer 725 one), but holy crap the geometry in the small version is whack as fuck. Make it plainly obvious that, for this specific purpose, I am much more well suited by a 650b bike.
So I emailed Rawland and asked if there were plans to make any more small Stags, and there are. But Rawland bro can not and will not stop asking me about my fucking standover height, which I don’t know because I don’t have a Rivendell, but I’m guessing he’s got a medium sitting around that he really wants to push off. I’m like 5’5" with insoles in my shoes, first thing in the morning, and there’s no way I’m riding a medium, but homeboy will NOT drop the standover questions.
Still want a small Stag. Don’t some of you nerds have them? Truth is, I’m probably just as well off riding my old Trek MTB with 26" wheels.
haha. yeah, he’s definitely chugged some of the riv paleo-fruit drink. You could just look at the geo tables, and quote a standover between the medium and the small frame min standover height. he never needs to know.
So much slow progress. I really need to get the Davidson rebuild done so I can ride it and be stoked but I keep getting sidetracked by other crap. I get distracted by shiny things easily.
Seattle Bike Swap: Sell more than I buy and come out even or maybe money ahead. Ha!
SUCCESS!
Main goal is 4 well-built usable bikes with minimal overlap:
-
Novara Randonee: 700x42c fendered low-trail mini-porteur disc camping dyno yolobiek
Convert to yolobiek. This means finish the install of low-trail raked crosscheck fork, then have disc tabs added to frame/fork, also fork bosses to fit homebuilt mini-porteur rack I made several years ago. I have a dorky paint theme in mind for this bike.
PUSH- Disc tabs installed, rack mounted, build in progress (paint will have to wait a while). -
Raleigh International: 700x32c dyno fendered low-trail zoomy randobike
Has been raked to low-trail, now needs to be built up so I can decide where to add braze-ons (OEM was clamp-on erreything almost). Will need paint or powder.
FAIL -Sold, never finished build. -
Bridgestone MB-2: 26xfatty dyno fendered flat bar front racked towniemuter
Finish building into flat-bar commutermobile. Have all parts for this, just lacking time.
SUCCESS! -
Zion 737: 29er hardtail
Replace pads and bleed brakes. Convert to tubeless. Ride more.
PUSH -still on brakes that badly need pads replaced. Still running tubes. But have been riding it.
These bikes should be sold, but will likely end up keeping at least one of them:
Miyata Valley Runner: Commute on this, then sell whole or parted out once yolobiek above is completed (too much overlap to justify owning both).
SUCCESS! -Sold frame to random dude, sold lotsa parts to Yummygooey
Novara Randonee: Keep as loaner/mutt/barbiek. Not much value in the parts so no worth selling, and nice to keep around as backup.
SUCCESS!- sold to a buddy who had a bike stolen -backup destiny fulfilled to the fullest, this bike lives on!
Trek 400: Won bare frameset in bike club white elephant. Extraordinarily tempting to build to cheapo SS, but in reality I should sell it.
SUCCESS! sold at bikeswap
Mystery S&S coupled frame: Bought for the couplers, should sell it as it’s clear I’ll probably never get around to wanting to travel with one of my bikes nor having these couplers removed then added to a frame I like.
SUCCESS! sold it.
Doing pretty good so far. And I have a Trek frameset on the way that replaces the never-built Raleigh International.
Hopefully picking up a new work stand this weekend so I can actually work on my bikes in a non bmx kickstand manner.
Need to cobble together the saint 800 caliper & saint 810 lever together to throw on the DJ
Lace up Saint hub to new rim to replace dinged the duck up azionic that’s on there now
Kinda want to respace the rear end of the polo bike & add some disc tabs so I can have a rear brake & ride it off road more.
will need bike to ride for mental health, but I’m getting rid of all of my bikes because I’m tired of them. I think I’ll end up riding whatever does not sell in the epic maybe moderately alright, average at best bike sale because no money to buy something actually nice. so: keep the cross check, the kona SS, or make the 56 square univega into a proper roadie with gears and shit?
I hate to say it but keep the Cross Check.
I just semi drunkenly e-mailed the Tati Cycles guy about the Pommes Frites Strada Ti. Real curious to see what the deal is with that.
note to self
fix all the shit that fucked up on my chinese bike after riding the fuck out of it and not giving a shit for the last 5 months. probably lace some new rims on. get another crank that doesn’t look like shit. maybe just get a campag cassette so i don’t have to keep fucking with the dangler/shimergo setup because i am incompetent
resurrect my old mtb before summer ends. new frok and bars. and cassette and brakes. cables and shit too. ride it a lot and get my gnarbro skills back.
build up weird cannondale frame with box of spares for Light Touring™ duty. buy frame bag + handlebar bag & then go fuck off on it for a week or two
sell the half a dozen frames I’m never going to use. probably pay my probation and court fees with it
Somehow I’ve convinced myself that I should build some custom carbon shoes like adam hansen:
or this HPV bro:
The dumb part is that I have no experience making pretty much anything, never mind working with composites.
I’m half-inclined to do the same.
It ain’t hard. You’ll wanna use pre-preg probably and an oven cure under vacuum, none of which is hard to jury-rig at that scale.
I should probably just get a Columbus Hiver fork for my Charge to make it a bit lighter and more awesome and save for something more balleur to put 6800/T11-Belgium+ on.
- Somehow find a way to buy some grand boyz from Fred THIS WEEK
2.new drivetrain - New ugly batrape
- Drink beers/YOLO the STP
- Ride going to the sun road & 200k in Wisconsin this summer on family road trip
Building up old univega into parts bin roadie. Probably going to sell cross check and paddywagon. Hopefully get enough monies.for vo passhunter by winter rains time, or else just 650b univega and ride until the parts are wrecked.
Need to decide on a drivetrain for this medium-reach sport touring bike I’m putting together
Hoarded a set of HSC/Zinn 190mm cranks long ago, that I’m gonna use on it out of pure yolo
I could get just 53/39 rings (which would feel like a 50/37 with the long cranks and make an 11t cog rad)
but it’d be awesome to get a 42t triplizer ring and ball out of control with a 54/42/30 and a corncob cassette
Dura-Ace 10speed DT shifters would make the triple easy, but what the hell would I use for brake levers?
I still have my old Red 10-speed shakes from my Rawland, but something about building a second srambiek feels bad man
Shimano 2x11 has real appeal to me if I’m gonna double, could use their 11-32 cassette (and chamfer the spider for use on a 10sp MTB hub)
The specter of Shimergo with Chorus 11s looms on the horizon and would make it easy to take full advantage of the triple idea, but what dangler?
^Putting the sport in sport touring.
New: 5700/6700. Or find a good condition 7800/6600?
I guess the main question is whether or not to triple with one of these jawns:

Thinking about this gearing: http://home.earthlink.net/~mike.sherman/shift.html?R0=30&R1=42&R2=54&C0=12&C1=13&C2=14&C3=15&C4=16&C5=17&C6=19&C7=21&C8=23&C9=25&C10=999&CAS=0&WI=8&CR=190&RT=1&ST=0&RPM=90&SRT=0&lRPM=80&hRMP=100&G=show&S=no&TITLE=&HL=1
