nerdy and dull bike plans/dithering thrad 2016

2017 biek plans:

RB-T: have had a Swift Ozette rando box for almost a year that I need to have a rack built to support. Otherwise I like what I read above and I’ll strive to simply consume consumables.

Fuji CX: strip the parts & liquidate all of it

Schwinn cruiser: annual spring service - replace brake pads/cable/housing, re-pack coaster brake and possibly re-pack BB.

sell 95 rockhopper ultra
sell most spare parts s
wap everything from grandonneur to hunter ditherer
make? a rack for it
make? a bag for it
give up and just use a wald basket cuz babby soon
maybe build grandonneur up 700c with new brake bridge
mostly stop riding bikes for a bit
ride bikes more

NFE: Replace drive-train consumables. Finally make it tubeless.
Poprad: Convert to 650b w/ dyno. Finally add fenders. Maybe get a new fork somewhere along the line.
El Mariachi: Swap on GX 1x11 drivetrain from the voodoo. New wheels, rigid fork. Probably back to squish fork pretty soon after switching to rigid.
Voodoo: Swap on 3x10 drivetrain from el mariachi. Do a bunnyhop.

You’re in Boise right? What’s up with that radlawn[/quote]

Yeah, I’m in Boise.
Theres a few things about the bike.

  1. It’s a Large Nordavinden and I feel like the top tube is too long (59 i think). I never been able to get the fit dialed.
  2. I’ve got a 4 year old boy and my wife works full time as well. Getting out on long rides isn’t going to happen, my commute is from Orchard & Emerald to downtown. My old fixie handles that just fine.

The other option is to sell the frame/fork and find something else to hang the components on. I’ve got full 11speed 105 with Ultegra to Chris Cross rims that could be used on a lot of other frames.

Ima pm ya

if you sell the F/F i might be interested, might need another warranty replacement down the road

New tires for MTB. Tubeless maybe? Service suspension.

Think about getting Endpoint fork/rack for cross bike, decide to save the money for plane tickets instead.

Sell paramount roadie w/ 10sp campy? I ride it once a year or less.

2017
2 rando series and maybe an organized domestic 1200
build no1 custom and take photos for the builder
replace rings/chain/cassette on blue rando, new tires midsummer, find a silver CL rear hub and build new wheel.
replace tires and fix paint on teal rando, maybe get some new bits
build camping bike and take camping
change some bits on MTB* and make it a MTB
plan out no2 custom and buy parts, organize assembly

2017

  • Sell old Novara that’s been collecting dust for years and sell/give away free agent bmx (keeping the Kink for nostalgia.)
  • Learn to use this truing stand I got for xmas '15.
  • More 1-2 night bikepacking trips
  • Get sup setup on a lighter rig for weekendbikepackin with supplelife and front load.
  • Finally ride the Olympic Discovery Trail
  • Super rando series
  • Acquire bike trailer to haul dag and mini-highbanker sluice setup for prospecting less accessible areas.
  • New cassette at some point but spend less on bikestuff unless I’m successful at
  • Finding the GOLD

Mig, whois building your OGD?

a novice framebuilder is making a few fop projects for me

more importantly, which heirloom variety of potato are you going to take the picture with?

This is the year of selling the random parts and clearing out the spare parts closet. Once I’ve got any random debts cleared, I’ll figure out a new mtb. Lacking a mtb is rough.

Rebuild sup’s Trek or buy her a bike she can ride fire roads on. Build the Grinder. Ride places together.

Salsa: Tubeless it (finally) and maaaybe a dynamo

Spooky RD: Ride it more or sell it and turn it into a MTB

Spooky CX: Actually race it for once

Convert the Jones to (SRAM) 1x.

What size chainring are you going to run? I don’t really know what to do with my plus/fat bike - when I’ve got Super Motos on I rarely need the granny ring, but I wouldn’t want a chainring smaller than 36t. But then if I switch to the fat wheels I end up using the granny ring quite a bit. I’m tempted to go 1x11, but I’m worried that picking a chainring that would work with the fat tires and heavy wheels (that I guess I rarely use now) would be too small when using big, fast tires on the plus wheels.

For road/gravel, 38 with 11-42.
For MTB, 28 or 30 with 11-42.

I’ll be using direct-mount rings, so changing rings will mean pulling the cranks (which is not a big deal, IMO).

sounds friggin delightful

Should be fun. Just wish it wasn’t so messy to swap the tubeless tires (Super Moto for pavement and 3"/2.3" knobbies for dirt).
