nerdy and dull bike plans/dithering thrad 2016

2017 plans:

Since I’m likely donating my car in the next couple months and will be auto-free I’m thinking about finally pulling the trigger on electrifying the CycleTruck cargo bike.
It’s pretty bad timing since we just moved out of a house with a big garage into a much smaller house with a tiny room that doubles as my workshop & bike storage.

A fun project would be buying a solar cell array and setting up a base battery charging station so the bike can be 100% off the grid. Always wanted a reason to mess around with solar cells since I was a kid

The silver lining to selling my family bike is that if I do I’m going to buy a really fancy tandem hub. Thinking the $400 DT 540. Oh yeah. The whole family is going to cruise around Minneapolis on that thing.

Put babbyshoes onto NFE wheels last night, will hopefully be getting Horizons when back in stock at CRC. Consumed new fenders (Zefal C50) to replace firetrail-crunched one, because very very cheap. Stays look a bit dinky but I reckon I’ll get them to work ok.

totally fucked my 2017 goal.

ordered 2017 coffee grinder. getting 650b wheels built. damnit.

BUT, I did manage to sell ritchey and CAAD10 frames on eBay, so I got that going for me.

I managed to fuck up my whole money situation and ended up in a weird spot. Otherwise my serotta build is getting closer since I got them 52cm rm013s. Now I just need to grab some 650b x 38mm tires and cable everything up for it to be rideable

Someday I’ll put my rival med cage dangler on, to go with the old man cassette I traded a bottle of cheap whiskey for. And then I may ride bikes for the first time since September.

~$275 from eurosites

hey tarck bike, I’m gonna build a track bike. Let the velodrama begin

No.

Why are you so boring?

Like, you’re even more boring than I am.

Well, I guess I could always build a fendered coffee grinder with a few carefully curated $9 shit parts/army surplus bags to cultivate the aesthetic of literally everyone here.

What’s a good outboard crankset that isn’t an omnium?

  1. Guy can’t stop talking about icelandic weenie sauce
  2. Guy has a website
  3. Guy doesn’t think he needs a $200 dynamo setup
  4. Guy wants a track bike

your next bike should probably have gears

Oh fuck
5. Guy has all single speed everything

Why are you here again?

I have some aspirations.

Ok, so assuming A: the bike is fixed, and B: the bike is steel, you guys could always offer a suggestion or three to help me avoid building this up like a total goon. I just want a commuter. I’m thinking 32mm or 35mm tires, a front brake because I’m not an idiot, a small front rack/basket, flat bars but not downhill wide like the MASH guys, and a reasonable cruising-around-town ratio.

Let’s talk about bikes

Get a steamroller.

See, that’s exactly what I was thinking but I’m kind of torn between that and a Big Block.

Big Block: real nice paint, real nice dropouts

Steamroller: 1 billion of them on the used market, more tire clearance

Steamrollers are the worst :drama:

Buy a Kilo TT

Just buy a used fgfs frame and backwards circle on outta here.
