nerdy and dull bike plans/dithering thrad 2016

If you don’t want to upgrade the wheels, look around for a 9zero7 offset frame. They’re still out there! But new wheels will probably be better.[/quote]
Yeah, I took the Pug apart yesterday and the wheels are in rough shape. Lots of rust on the nuts and stuff.

2k16 dithering
gunna sell my sw8 njs tarck bike
gunna sell my pomp
keep caad10 and crosscheck
eventually replace crosscheck with something lighter w dick breaks

Project for 2k16 is get an MTB. Needs to be rideable in winter but I don’t want it to suck in summer (probably no fatbike). Suggestions welcome. Advocate Hayduke? Other 27.5+ options that are better? Just get a regular hardtail MTB?

Finally gonna get around to setting up a pretty great lil repair shop in the basement, just gotta build workbenches and figure out the wall hook situation
Gotta get the Presidio powdercoated something really high vis and probably sparkly, dithering on whether or not to get the dropouts redone or disc tabs added while I’m at it
Want to get Switchback Hills for the NFE and figure out yay/nay on my fenders, and if they won’t work figure out something else
Also gotta get a stay-mounted Secula Plus for fenderless Thunder Burt singletrack action on a sick weekender route linking up all the local singletrack parks I’m planning for the spring

gonna be good times on bikes this year

Get a new iphone. It is seriously not even worth fucking around with a small digicam for this purpose atmo. I almost didn’t take my Fuji X100T on vacation but ended up feeling like carrying around some extra bulk.

Re: your new bike: I hear the SRAM stuff is amazing. I do think that these third(?) gen Shimano road hydros are bulletproof, though. I’ve had no issues with my second gen stuff. I brake until the pad material is thin and swap some new pads in, which takes 5 minutes because of the design of the caliper. Haven’t bled them since I set them up. No fuss, no muss.

My bikes: I’ve got Orc working on v3 of my rack, though he got hit by a car a few weeks ago which collarbonered him so he’s not ready to weld yet.

Also want a 27.5 full suspension MTB.

fuck, he ok? what happened?

I wish Orc would come back. And Snowman. They seem easily offended though so perhaps this isn’t the place for them.

Re cameras: The problem with iPhones is that it is tough to take a good picture while riding without going completely no hands, which is often not advisable on the roads I’m riding.

Oh and the lens gets narsty in my sweaty pocket and it’s not waterproof; putting a waterproof case on ruins the image quality.

Moto G?

  • Waterproof
  • Gorilla Glass front
  • Launch the camera with gesture
  • Unlocked
  • $200

Only caveat is that the camera is a little weak in low light conditions.

The 6S is allegedly pretty waterproof. http://www.engadget.com/2015/10/02/iphone-6s-waterproof/

You can photo with the volume rocker which is OK one-handed. After my last phone I’m done with droids for a while at least mostly because of the camera.

Yeah he’s fine. Left shoulder break not collarbone.

edit: whoops should have made it one post.

You want a rad camera on a phone? Get an Xperia Z5.

Grab on of the Lumia phones. Yeah you’re stuck with Windows mobile which is pretty mediocre, but the camera on my wife’s is really impressive for a phone. Impressive for a digital camera period.

i asked wife if i could get another bike last night
and she said

MAYBE!

Re: cameras for biking

My Ricoh GR has been great. Compact design, super light, good sensor. I have an iPhone 6s and still prefer to bring my GR with me. It fits in a jersey pocket (slip in a plastic sandwich bag to protect from back sweats), or a small belt holster. I actually rode most of the Oregon Outback with it hanging on my back with a neck strap and didn’t notice it was there.

Fixed 18.3mm f/2.8 lens tho so no zooming for you.

If this is the case it’s probably best to stop and take the photo. I don’t often have good luck taking photos while bumping around.

2k16 Bike:

  • ride the NFE more, way more non-paved stuff in new (old) Seattle environs
  • chill / bike IRL with some of y’all
  • continue to stock-up on (mostly) redundant 650b tires (&fenders) in 40-60mm sizeways
  • IQ-X the NFE
  • poopbarn
  • get rando-curious
  • slap some 5800 on my old trek (or some other sweet 80s/90s std. diameter steel in 55/56 sizeway) for a dedicated roadie
  • heatmold my new bonts and hopefully love them

tamaso where are you located

edit:whoops

Rawland is unveiling its new bikes here in PDX on 2/6.

I will assemble a team of experts to examine them and determine that they suck.

oh
is that happening at VC? honestly i couldnt imagine that happening anywhere else in town

Yup

Yes well look at that photos on my blog, they’re not all that great.

But still better than I’ve managed with a phonecamera
