nerdy and dull bike plans/dithering thrad 2016

most balleur jersey pocket cam available in this current era.

Figuring any current additions to your blog have a five year life cycle for reference. I’d personally look at p&s with 7-9mp using the highest quality lens/stabilizing. Prototype a strap that allows easy access and comfort to avoid invasive sweat in a jersey pocket. Basically keep in mind the fact you are posting these to a blog which operates within the parameters of current-near future web design (page load/sRBG in low quality/lossy format). Quality of content outweighs size of pixels.

Near the top of my list would be any of the top end Canon/Nikon of that era (right before 18mp on 1/3.2" sensors was deemed marketable) shooting RAW. Point + Shoot + solid work in post processing will get you further than fighting a fancier camera. What do I know though? I’m just some interntet weirdo punter from jolly old england.

Woah, cogent and coherent post there, new guy!

Yeah but ferg don’t play by those games

their consumer RX100 also has a shitload going for it

pretty much in this boat too

the stay mounted version really sucks out of the box, if you hack it somewhat like this it can work well
(or if you can find just the right p-clampy taillight bracket to pair it to)

but it’s MUCH easier to just mount a standard fender or rack-mount light to an hourglass boss using a standard headlight bracket:
(or using a random L-bracket to any other brazeon)
Rob English is building me a third bike and I’m getting rid of the others with the exception of the Herse.

I came to the realization that the bikes he built for me are the only ones I ride by choice. The others only occasionally get ridden when I’ve had mechanicals or flats that I’m too lazy to change.

You’ve never posted pics of the Weigle or Bates yet. Please do if possible. Not sure if you even have the Bates yet.

My dithering is a little similar. I think I might sell two fancy bikes (Cinelli, Singer) that I really like but I just don’t ride enough anymore. If I had the space I’d probably keep them to ride once a year or so but space is at a premium in the shed these days and I’d like a bit of space back.

since I already have the fender-mount version, this is probably what I’ll do- I have some banana plug disconnects wired up before the internally wired fender, so I can take off the light, leave the fender alone, and rig up some type of bracket from the parts bin for fenderless mounting

good talk, A+ dithering

Camera chat has me wanting to get a camera that annoys me less than X100S. But damn sometimes this thing can take great photos. The focusing just pisses me off (both auto and manual).

big plans v2016
[] upgrade homercar to 2x10, with unsightly parts
[
] keep homercar in camp-mode all the time
[] do rando on racey bikes, like a most randos, see if it’s faster than homercar
[
] poopbarn all over Vermunt

find steezy-ness on mtb (what is that?)
you will have access to the best rando club in the USA atmo. so many events and organizers/volunteers that know their shit and are enthusiastic.

Stay-mounted lights are just kind of a bummer in general. I’ve had bad luck with shearing them off. Maybe it’s just me.

I just went back to the secula. It’s just a much better light than the little toplight line small. The little light used to be center mounted, getting covered with mud all the time and I noticed condensation inside.
The secula is mounted with the b+m cross bracket for cantibrake post. Not the best looking spot, but visible at all angles and fairly well protected.

One dull project down:
Fizik’s Volta saddle is surprisingly great! I’d been disliking the Arione on my main road bike, there just wasn’t a fore-aft sweet spot that worked for me, and the Volta was getting closed out on Backcountry/competitivecyclist, so I figured it was worth a shot. It took a bit more initial setup, as the shape doesn’t afford a lot of visual cues for positioning, but after the two hour loop I do for a short ride, I really like it. The saddle’s not going to win any beauty contests, and given that it’s a Fizik product incorporating carbon fiber I’m not expecting it to last for ages, but definitely a good road saddle so far.
Next up is sorting out the best possible 23mm tire for my Gunnar Roadie. It’s my fendered road bike, and, as it’s raining almost daily this winter, this boring project has taken priority over other boring bike projects. I recently put on a set of GP4Kiis on, but sitting on A23 rims, they’re plump enough to rub the inside of the fender a bit. The correct answer to this problem is to get a road bike designed for fenders and 28-32mm tires, but that’s probably not happening for a while. It looks as if the bolt tab on the front fender has some rivets protruding into the inside radius of the fender, so a-Dremeling I shall go…

God I wish I didn’t have to spend my tax return on a car.

That is all

Edit: maybe I’ll use some of it to build a dynamo wheelset for the Marin THEN put the rest down on a car…

i think i want a bike that weighs less than 20#

I’m hacking together new 80mm aluminum fenders for my Elephant, and switching from rando bag to basket life

supgirl got her Bridgestone XO-2 stolen last year, just scored a slightly derped cheap MB-zip that’ll replace it as a better EnduroAllRoad bike

Stock examples usually go for over $1k, but this one had a really shitty listing on top of the aluminim fork + softride stem upgrade: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bridgestone-MB-O-MB-Zip-/262256566404

But it’s a production bike with 7/4/7 OS tubing with sweet ultralight wheels and drivetrain

so should just need a new cockpit, fenders, and Rat Trap Pass tires to start

I don’t think I have any plans. I like the new thumb shifters, the rest of the drivetrain is well sorted, tires are fine for what I need, wheels are still in perfect shape, saddle is great, rack/bags sorted out…

This feels weird.
