Any Interbike info to share? Are they doing the brifters in a triple?
There’s no triple DA crank that I know of so I’m not sure why they would be doing a triple shifter. I read an article a while ago about how the compact double will actually lead to a drop in recreational bike sales as slow people with money won’t be able to upgrade to the newest high end triple setup every year anymore.
Also, and this is a question I’ve asked myself ever since I found out there was such a thing, why would you want DA triple?

fixed.
Good catch. I’m a little off my game today.
Granted Richmond does not have any super steep hills but I think the proliferation of the compact crank is helping bike sales with older riders. A compact with a 11-26 or 12-27 is close enough to the low gears of a triple and anyone who tries both sees how much better the compact shifts. I have gotten to the point that I almost never stock a bike with a triple even when it comes to recreational geometry road bikes. My customers don’t seem to have a problem.
I could see this being an issue in really hilly areas where a 30x32 might be of use to someone with a lower fitness level but I think for most the difference of about 3 gear inches between the 30 and 34 in the 27 tooth sprocket seems pretty small.
Get SRAM Red instead.
I have Sram Red actually. I switched from Chorus this spring. Overall I am happy with the group. The crank is kindof bunk and I replaced it with a 7800 Dura-ace and the brakes are good but not up to the power of the Mavic ones I was using before. One of my back wheels is laced to a Shimano 10 speed only hub and I found that running a shimano cassette is a bit quieter than the Red Powerdome. Same goes with running a Shimano chain on any Sram drivetrain. Other than that it’s flawless. With the inflated prices of campy and the 15-20% price increase for Dura-ace there are some darn good arguments against either in favor of Red.
Mixing and matching SRAM and Shimano seems like a good way to go. Shimano still makes the nicest cranks, IMO.
I didn’t think they were making a triple, but some guy told me he had some prototype DA triple brifter that ran the shifter cable under the bar wrap. Must have been talking out his ass.
Actualllyyyyy… They do hide.

Wow, new DA shifter look like Campy, and new Campy shifter look like DA.
holy weight weenies…
wow I think that DA stuff is super ugly.
the last DA I thought looked good was several models ago. I completely agree, shit is getting so ugly and high tech looking.
The levers have always been nasty with the cable out the side. Now they finally got rid of it but went to a squared off shape that looks just like SRAM to me. The cranks for the last few years have been ok. I’ve never really thought that modern derailers could be pretty so I don’t look at them much. I’m also not too hot on the high tech look that everything is getting.
I love my SRAM levers. So damn simple operating and looking.
next chance I get I’m building up an sram rig, though I might opt for campy. I’d love a sram loaded cross bike…
They’re also the most comfortable brifters I’ve ever felt. My 9-speed Ultegras are killing my hands, so I’m considering making the jump soon.

surprisingly enough, i like my 9 speed ultegra’s enough.
