New & Interesting Bike Campenaerts

Saw a few ebikes here on Kauai that were styles after dirt bikes. Look pretty fun. So basically electric dirt bikes. Looked fun.

Looking forward to riding bikes as long as I physically can, and if that means getting a motor at some point to help out, I’d much rather that than quit riding.

I don’t think my old employer has an E bike yet but I’m sure it’s coming. When I was still there there was talk about it from upper management. While I’m sure there’s a market for high end e-bikes the only real justification for it from management was ā€œlook at this chart showing the growth of e-bike sales year over year, we need a piece of this pie!ā€

what I found cool from that blig post is the idea of it learning how you smash and learning how to deliver it’s fixed battery reserve to you in the most efficient way

Damn.
I wanted to be the one to point this out.

i kind of feel like acoustic and electric guitar are both more similar and more dissimilar than bike and ebike (torque sensing pedal assist)

My friend got a fancy road e-bike for his mom. She’s in her 70s and it enabled them to do road rides together again - 20-30 mi loops that were now too long for her.

Another coworker got one for his wife. She already has a road bike, but they rarely rode together due to the big gap in speed of a casual rider vs extremely competitive racer (many time master’s national and world champ). With the e-bike, they can go climb big hills together.

i think there are many, many justifications for high end e-bikes where they don’t really seem that different to me than regular bikes. They just make additional distances possible, as well as allowing people to ride together who might otherwise have difficulty staying at the same pace.

There’s a couple we see on our usual loop. He has a super aero road bike and gear and she has a fitness e-hybrid. They get to ride together at the same speed and that’s awesome.

I gotta admit it gives me great joy to see a gorpcore dad sipping a latte on an e-hybrid pass a cat6er in full aero mode

This is making me wonder if my kid would like having an e-assist bike for longer rides. I’m also questioning the wisdom of giving a small child a bike that can hit thirty miles an hour on a flat stretch.

About 3-4 years ago a coworker bought an electrified bicycle to use as a commuter/aide to help lose weight and get back into good enough shape to ride his regular bike to work. Ride it he did. Before all the pandemic BS, other than a few exceptions and occasional assistance with the train, he rode that thing in 4 days a week.

The entire PNW is gorpcore, except it’s not core anything it’s normal. Some asshole shows up at a work meeting wearing a tie and we all think ā€œmust be some bigwig out from the east coastā€ and it always is.

I’ve said in a few places, I’d like to get an e-bike my fiance can ride if that E-bike tax rebate bill goes through. Ideally it would be something that could get her to ride on the road (though I don’t think her speed is the main factor there). I’d also like it for myself when I just can’t be assed to ride to work - bike is bar-none the best way to get to campus

Well if I hadn’t built up my e-monstrosity I wouldn’t have had a hilly 2 hour ride with my wife last weekend. That’s what I built it for. It’s well worth it. If it was torque rather than cadence based I would let her go off-road on it. I’m already planning a e-bike enabled holiday for us together for Next summer.

I refuse to show up to school in anything other than slacks and a long sleeve dress shirts. The rest of the school wears jeans, t-shirts and sandals.

Y’all are just reminding that is I had a hair more expendable income and more (any) garage space, I’d have an ebike already.

Yes, well, you’re wearing a costume. I’m supposed to wear a similar one at work in the office but no one gives a shit.
