Are you guys still talking about cars?
well everyone already fucked up the actual car thread with a bunch of EV bullshit, so why not talk about jans shitty subaru in the bike section?
Cars are like most vices, really fucking fun and probably okay if you do just a little bit as a treat. Most people do too much and ruin the fun for everybody else tho
But talking about cars in the bike parts thread is like meth, super addictive and ultimately destructive.
Jan started it
No, thatās what I drive!
Fucking guy
I rode a bike with the an Outbound Detour last night, and I was wrong in this estimate of their ranking. At the highest brightness setting, the new Outbound about the same lux illumination as the IQ-X E in a smoother more homogenous field where the StVZO lights all have small artifacts.
The Outbound cutoff is waaay fuzzier though, and the distance beam is only barely progressive. This makes it harder to aim uselessly and friendlier to twisting trails, it was probably the right choice for their target market.
But it also means that itās hurting your night vision by putting too much light up close, and maxes at around 50m where a good StVZO light goes past 200m and canāt be outrun.
I ordered their latest 300lux light IQ-XL E Highbeam - Busch + Müller EN and also this wacky gryoscopic-aiming accessory Products - Busch + Müller EN to keep dithering
ok that gyro thing is nuts, it looks like itās mechanical? theoretically it could be done with an adaptive LED array but doubtful at that size
two things- iāve long dreamed of an stvzo gimbal or a switch and two dynamo lights- stvzo for the road and other for when the pavement ends. also holy fuck 300lux jesus christ i need it
Thereās a pure dynamo equivalent announced last year, but seems to not actually available at retail yet just being sampled to racers and reviewers
Supernova will sell you one:
Correlates precisely with my experience.
Yup. At 20mph on a twisty MUP in the dark, itās easy to outrun. Lights up the corners really well, though. It may be harder to aim uselessly, but itās difficult to aim to get the best throw from the light. Especially since the mount has a little vertical slop in it.
very curious to know how you end up feeling about this. it solves a problem iāve been noticing more and more on the ebike. hopefully just a better brighter light will help
Japanese bike hipsters sure do love dithering THUMBSTER by FRXBL LLC ā Kickstarter
Seems like, awkwardly long
Iād be into a real slick modern thumbie but I donāt think thatās it.
I think the long lever length is to keep the friction shifting from being too sensitive, as the barrel radius is bigger to pull more cable for modern drivetrains, and if the barrel were small it would need to rotate through a >120° arc and be unsuitable for a handlebar
almost like someone should engineer some gears into the mechanism
and once the gearing is there why not a clockwork escapement? ![]()
What if Shimano is waiting half a cycle to release higher end mechanical groups to make everyone adopt di2
Just like they did with 11sp cassette bodies when IN FACT THEY KNEW WE ONLY WANTED 11-34 which fit on a 10sp cassette body.
$91 USD to back the project and get a pair of shifters, which is about what I paid for some Microshift 10s thumbies. Not bad.
edit: no thatās $91 for just a right side shifter, so I guess thatās more in line with buying a Silver shifter and a mount from Riv.
