Yeah it sorta had my attention when I was thinking “oooh this could be nice for a flatbar conversion on my LHT” but as with only a right hand shifter it’s not that useful or economical shartmo

is this thumbie porn?

is there any reason one couldn’t run a regular dynamo on a usb battery pack? i’m thinking about this for a second, non dynamo wheelset on a bike with a dynamo light

Dyno is AC, e-bike lights and batteries are DC.

You could probably use an inverter, but then probably be better off with an e-bike light.

doesn’t the front light have a rectifier?

Generally yes, you can run a lot of dyno lights off a battery but since batteries aren’t inherently current limiting like dyno coils, you need to be careful figuring out a safe voltage, maybe use a lil dc-dc converter board to fine tune the voltage… At which point you’ve really just recreated an ebike light.

The LEVAL gimbal shows up having an interesting little legal addendum slipped in

The manual explicitly gives instructions on how to wire it to a power bank, especially for powering the gimbal separately from DC with an AC dynamo light — but the addendum says that’s illegal in Germany with a stub website saying that it’s only for e-bike lights wired in a fully StVZO fashion Leval - Bumm

hmm i thought the voltage limiting happened at the light. but i also don’t know a lot about this. i’ve seen dynos put out a lot of voltage on a meter just spinning them in a vise. but that’s not really current all by itself
