Light Bicycle is kinda crowd-funding an ultralight tubular rim:
Neat, but certainly not for me. It’s esoteric and I think they’re using the crowd-funding approach to gauge interest more than anything else, which seems fine, I suppose. They’re also offering for people to join a “panel” which makes me curious.
They’re estimating the total weight on a disc wheelset built with these, extralite hubs, and their carbon spokes would come in at 718g… For the whole wheelset.

imagining a highly-niche race format where competitors ride a super light climbing bike to the summit, then run a short controlled distance to a prepared DH bike which they then race back down to the start

what about if we added olympic target shooting at the top? scoring is some mix of overall elapsed time plus number of hits or misses like alpine biathlon
