New & Interesting Bike Campenaerts

With the availability of pumps with hoses and foot pegs, I don’t understand why anyone gets anything else. Just size? The two times a year I use my mini morph totally makes up for it being slightly larger than the tiny non-hose pumps.

Also, since we’re talking about pumps and such:
DQ the last couple of times I’ve used a CO2 inflator, it’s frozen up and hasn’t properly inflated anything. I don’t remember that being an issue in Atlanta. Is it a humidity thing since I’m in Seattle now?

PV=nRT is why it freezes. Always works for me. Maybe you need a new inflator doohickey.

Hill I’m ready to die on: fuck a CO2 pump. You got a flat, getting a flat is a fine excuse for being late, so what’s the hurry?

IMO sealant and plugs work better when you blast the tire with a CO2 canister.

i’ll take my biannual liter or two of carbon dioxide over huffing and puffing and failing to blow a house down atmo. i only use them when i’m on a bike ride bike ride and it’s so rare that i need them. except for the next ride i go on now. i’ll need three despite only carrying one.

Is that for roadie/gravel or just MTB?

These press-fit style ones have always worked for me. Damn those old screwon ones were a complete disaster. https://www.moto1.nz/products/xtci002?variant=39646076796976&currency=NZD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAjw586hBhBrEiwAQYEnHcfMNbMPDZX2VTkoXXqtFOadhzVQE-nT_wI-szQMKLErL1DjfygA5RoCimUQAvD_BwE

The only one that ever worked reliably for me was the microflate nano. Should probably try to dig it out of the bottom of my parts bin again and stop mucking around with fancy new stuff.

Anecdotally, all of the above

That’s the inflater I use. I have an inflater on my pump, but the Microflate is way easier to use.

I guess fewer new & interesting campaenaerts?

im late to this but i really dig my Blackburn Airstik 2 stage. I’d prolly recommend to buy it from a local shop if possible since that lifetime warranty seems to be based on how generous the shop is feeling that day (most feel good IME). I can definitely pump up a road tire or a gravel tire to proper pressure, it just takes a while.

most of my rides in the last few months have been with the silca tattico though. its my pump of choice for airplane travel now. bigger but so, so worth it in my opinion. i use the downtube bottle cage mount with it.

wahoo probably doesn’t die does it? the company is so pervasive at this point that its hard for me to believe wahoo doesn’t get bought out for pennies.

Iunno, they way overextended themselves during the pandemic fitness boom. They’re in a big hole. Hard to make new and awesome products when you’re staring at a mountain of debt.

Then there’s the question of where the money went. I presume they were attempting to scale the business but I wonder if they didn’t create more inefficiencies relative to what is a sustainable revenue for them.

someone like Pon or Vista will swoop in and buy up their stuff in bankruptcy? seems like a valuable brand with a bunch of decent products

mmm not gonna be Vista I don’t think

yes, someone will buy them. but not pon or vista. they’re heavily a software brand now over a hard goods company, which I am not sure the larger investment groups that own a bunch of bike brands want to deal with.

in the last few years, wahoo bought up speedplay, sufferfest, and RGT. they inherited the full staff of all those companies, then added staff to rapidly try to integrate both of the software services into their own singular app, which I think required a ton of hiring, then they quickly used up funds in that process.

their last couple rounds of lay offs and raising the prices of their products have been indicators that they’re failing to reach the mark. many fitness and bike industry brands are in the same boat though. rapid expansion during covid stretched them extremely thin and now they’re losing money rapidly.

let me know when the bike brands need a strategy consultant, I’ll be waiting

Sram is set and Shimano can barely develop their own software. I don’t see any major players wanting to take on this headache. Especially now.
