It still amazes me how badly shimano handled the pioneer acquisition. Like, they had a power meter and computer and stuff that was good and people liked it, and now it’s just ruins.
i just got a goddamned wahoo an md i like it so much more than my garmin
Like they can pay you.
So, Garmin will probably buy them, divest non-core hardware and plunder any good ideas, and then wahoo no more.
Nah, the integration challenge is too great, then there’s the antitrust stuff to consider. Also, Garmin is fully committed to Garmin Connect. They ain’t gonna walk that back.
Honestly, I don’t see anyone buying 'em. I think they have a substantial enough customer base and potential for new product revenue to survive a chapter 11, but that’s based on pure speculation and no real analysis of their business.
So if I’m finally gonna buy a gps deal, should I just buy a Garmin now?
I only just noticed this video update on the new Archer stuff. The Updated D1x Trail Shifter - New Features! - YouTube
i can’t imagine this would be on regulators’ radar (see what i did there). there are so many other competitors.
Karoo, Bryton, Stages all make good units too
Even if Wahoo blows up, most of their stuff runs on Android. It won’t be completely bricked without the mothership.
I’d still buy a Wahoo if I were in the market, but I’m biased. Garmin has supposedly improved their UX some. Also kinda depends on the use case.
Only reason Garmin would buy Wahoo is to wind down their business and regain some market share. That’s not patently illegal but does incur some potential liability for little benefit.
So many competitors sharing 5% of the market.
I would guess wildly that Garmin has somewhere in the realm of a 75% share of the bike gps market. Wahoo might have 10 or even 15% domestically, but not sure how they are doing globally. Karoo and others are gaining momentum, but they’re still pretty niche.
There could be a surprise benefactor like Nokia buying Withings but this was more general fitness than niche, and didn’t last long. The fact that Strava has remained private despite being the de facto fitness app shows that larger companies see themselves building their own platforms. This eliminates Apple. Maybe a major OE like Giant could acquire since we know spesh and Trek aren’t well off enough to do so.
Except they just bought a 30% share of a competitor to wahoo.
I just watched the interview on PLP because it was with Sam Allison of Singular. He mentioned that the Ingrid danglers were multi-choice speeds, pick your own fin. Must be similar to swapping the sram fins about? I am pretty sure i didnt know that. I thought they were just expensive jewellery.
Pretty good take. You won’t have much problem moving into a PM role.
I had mixed feelings about my Karoo when I heard news that SRAM bought them, but now I think it is a blessing. They’re more likely to survive and support this expensive head unit long into the future. I hear they’re bringing trailforks to it soon, and I see regular updates to their feature set so am hopeful it will keep getting better. Still, their choice to drop Di2 was a bummer, so not all roses in Karoo land.
Lol what
You think SRAM is less likely to survive that Karoo on it’s own?
I think u got it reversed
Where’s powertap these days
This was Shimano’s choice, they revoked the agreement once SRAM bought Hammerhead.
