I kinda wish Jan would just say "I like this thing so we made this thing, " instead of “uhm, actually bikes from the 40s were better because none of the parts to fix them are ever in stock at your LBS”
my xtracycle with the front rack shimmies pretty hilariously. The rack is fixed though so it’s 100% frame harmonics.
Skinny tubes seem to be more apt to shimmy, I think; I don’t live low-trail lyfe anymore, but a couple of my machines go into a pretty amazing shimmy (amazing, but controllable with the old knee-to-the-top-tube trick) at about 35mph. They’re the ones with the larger rando bags, so I’d not be surprised if bag slosh wasn’t contributing to the excitement.
Mine too. Was bummed to discover this after adding the awesome front rack and bag they make
which frame do you have? we have a RFA in longtail mode.
2018 swoop (non ebike that I converted to an ebike). I did test ride an RFA a year or two ago and it was fun as hell even with a couple preschoolers in the rear
nice. yeah, it’s gotta just be the rack and front load that makes it shimmy.
I think i saw the Radvertiser saying that Archers shifters were no more? Better have a look.
We dithered too long
Archer has pulled it into the spokes
Archer took their shot and missed.
it was a neat toy but IDK if anyone could seriously argue it was more than that.
This is all bikes
My bike that got me to work and is my sole sorce of commuting transport, disagrees.
It reminded me of those ‘101 Science Experiments’ kits. Or maybe the battery pack you have to hide somewhere in the build in a Lego Mindstorm.
I could see some new-fangled Sheldon type rocking one, maybe with a Tesla hood ornament taped on top of his cycling helmet.
I forgot that sarcasm isn’t automatically assumed here sorry
Wasn’t the archer thing significantly cheaper than wireless sram or shimano?
For new components, yes. It’s a shame that I never got around to buying one of them, because a fly-by-wire S-A 3-speed would have been hilarious
I feel like the growtac system makes the archer a bit redundant, but I guess you could say the same about bar end shifters too.
anything you can do to overly complicate something so simple is a worthwhile endeavor atmo. smoke em if you got em or something.
and i would expect nobody to do it as well as you!
