Started from the 48s and now we’re 700c
As a hunter diterer sometimes I want to go back to 650b. Maybe I should swap back and up my crankset to 48/32
I’d hope the other way myself; 650b makes for a more responsive ride (with suitably narrow tires; I am not a great fan of the fat tires that are all the rage) and makes it easier to glue up a smaller frame with a sensible saddle to bar drop, while low trail is at best a little easier to row uphill with a loaded front bag and at worst is a recipe for wandering all over the fucking road if you’re a little bit tired.
Sadly, 650b rim brake rims cost an arm and a leg these days unless you’re lucky enough to find a stash of zac19s (and the disc rims cater more towards fat tires run at very low pressures.)
I just found this:
The M.U.D. Fork
The rake is 55mm which results in a slightly shorter trail figure than usual, providing better handling especially when the bike is front loaded.
…Is this the unicorn?
700c worked great on my gatherer too, handled much better
I’ve seen this fork before, on a 73deg HT you can get down to 49mm of trail with a 700x35 tire, or 47 with a 650x47.
It’s close but a little lower would be better.
Edit
They did ball out with the velo duo carpet fenders
70mm offset carbon fork, comes with a free frame
Based on the NOS stuff that pops up for GT constantly I bet there’s at least a handful of warranty forks sitting in a warehouse that will end up being sold on eBay by RandomBikeParts or someone in 5 years.
can you imagine another tire company publicly saying something like:
The Rene Herse was actually one of the tires that showed us how NOT to make a tubeless tire: porous casing, way too fragile, beads that stretched out after you mounted it once. Of course, Rene Herses always were intended as Instagram tires, so it’s perhaps a bit unfair to judge them by our standard.
WTB’s social media intern has a huge opportunity
Damn, was hoping to try 650 on my fixed.
WTH
Waited too long to pull the trigger on a Fairlight Strael 3.0 in purple. They brought out the 4.0 and it’s either black, white or some mustard color.
Unless I fit the size 56T (which is likely). Then I get a discount on last year’s bike. Headed to get a fit in a couple weeks to find out. Hopefully there will be some left.
FWIW the new one has more tire clearance, a lighter tubeset, and a redesigned fork. Also the black with some subtle hints of color looks good IMO.
sir, this is tarck
Where does new S-Ride slot into the “other” groupset heirarchy?
Meaningfully different than Sensah or Microshift? Are groupsets and by extension their drivetrains, commodity products at the mid-level now? Were they always?
I am also S-Ride curious. I’m thinking they would be a good replacement for my aging Ultegra shifters but can’t find much in way of reviews. For ~$150 I may just roll the dice

perfect execution if this is you
Maybe
Soma has been carrying them for quite some time but I think maybe the “old” ones just got replaced with new ones? No clue what’s different or how they perform. Is it any cheaper than Microshift? I’m a Microshift simp.
