In a year when nibz had the chance to not be a joke by embracing the joke they doubled down on not getting the joke.

and dinucci didn’t have a complete frame laying around he could just throw in the truck? wtf.

Why bother when you know your reputation will get you the award anyway?

And I don’t know who put up the announcement about the pubesmobile raffle but thank you. I meant to buy a couple tickets earlier and had forgotten but luckily my tarck friends are looking out. Not just for me to win a really stupid bike that I’ll ride almost never (as is the tarck way) but also looking out for a good cause.

There was plenty of cool stuff and cool people there. I didn’t even know who actually won the awards and I was there.

There was a black cat full sus that I really liked. The english bikepacking rig was rad too.

There was also a new builder who made his own low trail disc brake carbon fork… it was sketchy as fuck but I appreciated his ingenuity.

big thanks to @turpentine who put the planned parenthood sticky link on top of the forum. I think it was you. thats awesome.

would have been neat to win the artisan award. and both english and black sheep were nominated in that category for bikes they had already shown (gravgrav with deathsplosion fork and right bike), which is horseshit.

but oh my god the dude on stage announced Petor as BICYCLE PUBES and announced it as if he had never heard the words bicycle and pubes put together in his life. Then he held up the microphone to the whoopie cushion, it farted, several people applauded in the audience. it was a magical fucking moment.

im def never doing this again and im sure as shit not going to dallas next year.

I second this, I’ve seen a lot of cool shit in galleries and such. It just seems like the jury is really whack when handing out awards? I haven’t found any pictures of the Black Cat full sus thingy…

Rob English personal bike packing rig was really nice, as all of his bikes are.“English Cycles’ Adventure bike hides a few secrets. The rear stays bolt onto the frame and can be removed for shipping to far-away places. The hinge (on the stem) is there because the stem is part of the fork, unclamp the steerer tube and it slides out so the bike packs even smaller.

The Cal Poly DH project was really really awesome as well. Taking time and effort to machining their own levers, master cylinders and pedals.

Y’all know I love English but I really hate those right bikes he does. The thing I like about English is everything else he does serves a function. The right bikes are just bizarre for the sake of being novel.

Also why the bent chainstays on the English above?

My guess is elevated stay so you don’t have to break the chain when pulling the bike apart

The e-stays let you run shorter chainstays, but that’s not a feature I’d look for on a bikepacking bike. But it’s his bike so…

I also don’t see those tiny chainstays surviving.

The chain could come out between the seatstays since there’s no bridge.

the bolt-together rear triangle relies on contact with both the seat tube and downtube to keep the rear wheel pointed in the right direction. You could probably do it at the BB junction if the rear wheel was further aft, but there’s not a lot of room with the short rear-center.

Bend in the chainstay is so the chain doesn’t contact the stay when yer in the big cog.

The whole truss fork setup on that bike was one of my favorite details at the show.

Sure, I’m old enough to remember when all the e-stay bikes came out, and how many of them (most of them!) broke. One of the main problems was actually the seat tubes breaking!

Without a front derailleur you can get the bottom stays lower and reduce chain tension, both of which improve things, but it’s still tricker than it looks to make it last.
