Bastion made a bike that I like the looks of:
Yeah they can make some pretty bikes for sure. I am curious how well all of those titanium-carbon bonds will hold up over a decade, but I’m guessing the average Bastion buyer isn’t as concerned about it.
they’re here for a visually jarring time, not for a long time
if I were in that market, Prova makes some visually pleasing bikes with their own fancy integrated frontend/headset/etc.
If this was $1000 cheaper I’d try to talk myself into it.
I’ll post this here because I’m excited but a road bike journey begins for me! $250 got this somewhat mysterious Monti frameset.
I believe it was built by one “Vanni” Losa, as per the V-shaped cutouts in the lugs.
It’s all columbus tubing, though what grade I do not know. The aero fork is 691g, the frame (54.5 square c-c for the top tube and seat tube, 56cm c-t for the seat tube) is 1999g. Perhaps Columbus SL based off the weights in this chart.
All this is so new to me! Many exciting wintery roadie rides to come.
Seatpost size? 27.2mm tells you it’s one of the better tubesets at the very least.
it is! checked it and my old 27.2 controltech slots right in
resurrecting this thread because it’s going to be 2026
Scanidum is still a thing?
I hated on them in an insta comment, informing them they make headtubes longer than 120mm. Turns out their 58 fits me. Price is still unhinged
Truly astronomical €,€€€
A former Sydney person from the Prison Island obscure fixie forum lives in Berlin now, his amateur road cycling team rode Standerts for a couple of seasons. Reviews were positive. They’re now on some even-more-obscure Euro carbon brand (BIXS??).
love a good obscure Euro carbon brand, you can see lots of them at WC XCOs
thanks I hate it
ATMO if you’re jonesing to relive the late 90s/early 00s but with disc brakes it’s cool, but that’s a lotta bucks for an alloy racing frame that’s not gonna be repairable if you put a big enough ding in it.
Lighter, stiffer and rarer than regular aluminium
no
I need scandium to make a comeback so that I can sell this Felt frame I have hanging in my shed. Or maybe I should just build it back up and ride it. It does ride well, but that is likely more attributable to the carbon fork and carbon rear end.
I think skinny tires need to back into fashion for any old road bikes to be valuable again.
The past of 21-25mm road tires at 100+ PSI is better left in the past. As much as I love a Saeco CAAD or a Domo Merckx, the memory is better than the reality.
Rims are a consumable, relace to TLR and enjoy
25mm at ~80psi is pretty OK
Someday I should repaint my scandium Kona. I was living in an apartment and could only keep one bike indoors so the carbon stayed in while the scandium was left outside on the deck. The paint got really faded and also driving on forest roads with it on the bike rack also damaged the finished
I really like how it rides though, light and not too stiff, great for climbing on pavement
