platform pedalsss?

Backing he platforms plus powagrip collabo.

I’ve got some shitty azonic flat platforms on my singlespeed bike. They’re great for fucking around. I’ll throw SPDs on there any time I’m serious, though. Did that today, hucked a stair set on the way home, bad idea. Need platforms for that shit.

Got the Bontrager Big Earls on teh KM and they’re friggin’ great. Had them on teh Misfit for winter and their width worked nicely with my huge ass boots. They feel solid and continue to spin real smooth-like after quite a bit of abuse.

[quote=sN3Aky2d0p3]which ones you like?

i’ve seen the kona wah wah pedals and they’re pretty nice looking: thin, nice bearings.

i think these + hold fasts may be my next pedal choice.

I had these.

Pretty grippy, and I picked em up for cheap.

brooklyn machine works shinburgers.

not sure if they are still made anymore.

Oh, yeah, those are really nice. A little too slippery for mud, but pretty grippy in other situations.

Those don’t look like they’ll accept powerstraps.

Bmx pedals and powerstraps are a pretty awesome combo for the right applications. Plastic pedals are also way nicer when pedal strike occurs.

animal pedals.

/thread.

odyssey jcpc pedals. light like plastic, grip like metal.

also, no bearings apparently

^pin threads strip out.

Can somebody help me understand how you do a bunnyhop with flat pedals?

point your rear foot down and apply pressure to the pedal to pull the rear up. front is self-explanatory.

also, you can do this at the same time as you pull up the front, or pull the front up first for more height.

i’m less thrilled with my pair because no way to mount foot retension (just less versatility) and the pins seemed to wear down really fast. especially bad to realize that in the rain with feet slipping around and nearly off while climbing a big hill.

never though about that. i’ve only used them on my BMX bikes and never thought about foot retention on them.

yeah, of course, and i know they’re bmx pedals so of course they’re designed like that. but since i’m using them in other applications i have to think about that shit.

I don’t know if they’re available in the US, but a lot of guys in Sydney run these:

Personally I could not use them, as my feet are short and ridiculously wide. I also could never go back to clips/straps after riding clipless now.
The upside would be having the plastic odyssey twisteds, and able to use these if you wanted to ad retention at a later date. I ran some plastic white twisteds on my BMX for about 2 years and I don’t know how people wear the pins down, mine are still like new. The unsealed ones don’t rattle around like unsealed pedals do traditionally either. I love the dull ‘thud’ my bmx makes when i drop it from a foot up.
For the record, I am now running shimano DX’s which are pretty much awesome, but they have a little play in the bearings.
As far as bunnyhopping with no foot retention, you’re basically timing a normal jump as if you weren’t even riding a bike. Pull the bars back and jump from your legs, once you’re sufficiently high off the ground, level out by pushing the bars forwards/down as required. It’s really amazing how difficult and non-sensical bunnyhops are theoretically, but practically they are really, really easy.

I can bunnyhop for days with clipless pedal but have a hard time understanding how to do it on flats. I guess im so trained on clipless my brain cant process it.

Practice on platform pedals for a while. Then go try it again with clipless and you’ll fuckign rocket.

It’s hardly bunnyhopping on clipless pedals. It’s just jumping. The way I learned to keep my feet in the pedals was by trying to just pop the back wheel up without the front by pushing back on the flat pedals. At first, you’ll feel stupid, but eventually you’ll feel stupid but you’ll know how to do that. Then, if you can’t wheelie, learn to do that, then you’re ready to bunnyhop.

Man, hearing people have trouble bunny hopping on platform pedals is kinda weird coming from a bmx background.

Because I grew up on bmx, i’m usually the only one on rides bunnyhopping pot holes/roadkill. not sure if I look cool or silly, but it’s fun as fuck, which is what matters.
