then i can put on my 10spd deore and clydesdale fork the fuck out of it.
i passed. its just too dumb and i dont want to deal with adding shit to the bike pile.
A good rule of thumb is never buy a used carbon road bike
Aw man
Unless it’s a really sick one.
And under 5 years old
I’ll die on this hill
buying a skinny tire road bike brand new is the mistake
its such a refined form, so most of the new shit product managers do to it will be mistaken features and/or fashion trends, and mostly there to jack up the price on a steeply-depreciating “cycling is the new golf” status symbol
but speaking of — who’s holding some “last of the great rim brakes” carbon clincher wheelsets or rims?
fred says we shouldn’t have status symbol bikes.,
I’m still stoked on my low-km 12 year old Wilier with 11sp Record. Sometimes you just have to buy the old carbon bike.
I’m saying we should feel like we got one over
buying the ne-plus-ultra artisan luxury equipment for under 20 cents on the dollar after they’re out of production and moved on to the next trend
What do we put into this category? Enve and Zipp from whatever year that was?
I legit want to get back into road bikes by buying a rim brake carbon preferably French bike.
Besides Enve and Zipp, for “white guys that make their own rims” there’s also Campy Hyperon and Bora, Corima, and some odd Germans like Schmolke and Lightweight
For Chinese OEMs Winspace and 9velo have some very recently developed rim brake wheelsets, though they start getting into having carbon straight-pull spokes
I think I’m probably gonna get another pair of Light Bicycle rims for the 24h/20h dynamo wheelset from my Time, either AR55 Carbon Road/CX/Gravel Rim - Light Bicycle or AR465 Carbon Road/CX/Gravel Rim - Light Bicycle
But it would feel silly to spend time and money building up a non-dynamo carbon road bike wheelset, when there should be fancy ass shit out there for cheap used?
Two different weirdos with XXL Look 585 bikes
I might have a set of LB rim brake hoops at the shop.
Reynolds, and maybe Shimano too?
Dunno if they fully qualify, but I’ve got a pair of Mavic CC40s I’m looking to move on from…
This is a terrible rule. Like Fred said, you’ll get way more bang for your buck in a used road bike as they aren’t holding their value anymore and not much has changed in road bikes in several years besides maybe better electronic shifting options.
Yeah ain’t it funny now you get the privilege of buying a bike with missing cable routing.
Bring back the elegance atmo
I’m not worried about geo or features. I’m worried about the 90% of used carbon bikes I have coming through the shop that are cracked, softening, have compressed/worn press fit bb shells, sweat-seized bearings and screws.
For a discerning buyer go for it, but if you’re asking me for advice on whether to do it or not I will always say no.
