Oh, and I’m doing the time trial because I’ve never done one, and if I’m going to learn, it may as well be early in the season when lots of other people also don’t know what the fuck they’re doing.
FYI, Sauvie Island loop is about the same length (~20k) as Jackfrost if you feel like giving it a run through or doing a 30-35min interval.
I’ve never ridden jack frost but i’ve ridden up there by vancouver lake and they’re so close to each other on other sides of the river that it’s pretty much identical conditions.
probably gonna race the gorge roubaix ( even though i hate the name)
totally out of shape and havent ridden with more than 4 people in several months
but at 180lbs, gravel, wind and rain are about the only races that play to me
dirty circles is gonna be cool too
gravel and chipseal criterium
Hey, is anyone interested in showing me some 30ish mile loops around town? I have lots of 2-hour endurance rides in my future and evidently cannot be trusted to come up with my own routes.
this weekend is going to be awesome. racing twice tomorrow at CCCX and then racing another crit on sunday. let’s see how long i last tomorrow in the 1/2/3
so, raced the 3/4 and the 1/2/3 yesterday, back to back.
3/4 race went well. i threw in a lot of punches and finally got away. Unfortunately, i havn’t done much of anything outside of lower zone 3 so i couldn’t stay away for too long. i got absorbed back in with my break-away mate with 2 to go. positioned myself fairly well and jumped early before the final turns going into 200 m. made it 2nd wheel at 200 and started my sprint. made it happen untill i started to slowly go backwards and then i got pipped in the last 3 m by 7 other people. oh well.
only made it a lap into the 1/2/3 race because it was back to back.
today i jumped in the 1/2/3 race.
Threw a ton of punches and missed the winning break because it was a counter attack off me. tried to bridge up but the guy driving the pace was nate english of kenda/5-hour energy. i just went to the front and took turns with a few guys to keep the pace high. finished in the field sprint
It was fun. next week are more crits, and after that are some awesome road races. my legs are starting to come around, but we’ll see how they feel after a 140k road race.
First collegiate race this weekend in Cal Poly! Sat is the crit, same one they’ve been doing for the last 10 years, starts with a 30sec 8% or so climb, then a bit of flat, then short/steep descent with a technical turn, then flat to another right hander and hit the finish line in time to do it all again.
Sunday their typical ITT has been replaced by a super flat road race. Only 54 miles, but should be fun following the TTT. We’ve got some absurdly strong guys in the Bs this season, gonna be silly.
In other news, had our team Intersquad TT on Saturday. I decided to train through it, and that combined with a long ski day Thursday meant I was super tight, spent the whole 10mi trying to get my legs to open up. Tight legs meant I couldn’t get my heart rate above 168 (versus my threshold hr of 185 and peak 198), so legs hurt but ended up at low medium endurance tempo. However, I was able to hold FTP the entire time from within the invisible aerobar position, which confirms the feeling that my power’s slowly getting back up there.
Though when both your housemates are thresholding at 340 and only 6-10% heavier, getting back up to high 280s doesn’t feel as noteworthy haha. However, increased stretching in combination with Bikram yoga has seen flexibility go way up recently, so I’m going to drop my handlebars down and see if we can at least make up a bit for these long ass legs.
How long are your seasons out there? Ours is a month away, but it’ll still be freezing in march. Generally 8 weeks long. We are hosting conference championships the last weekend of April.
Shit, crits don’t start until early March and the first race I’m doing this year is Tour Del Sol. Excited for above freezing temps and air that doesn’t require a respirator! First year where I’m going to take upgrade points seriously.
I know a dude. Here he is advertizing to promising customers…
