Was at 5 complete bikes, a wheelset, fork, and one parts box about a month ago. Now down to one complete, a wheelset, a frame, and parts box. Been clearing shit out in preparation for upcoming monk lifestyle while I finish thesis (i.e. couchsurfing, sublets, and overall uncertain living situation), followed by a cross country move.
I wish my bike mess looked like some of y’alls.

Attempted to reorganize my bike mess and clean the apartment today so I moved as much as I could outside. Not pictured: 4 partial bikes, rollers and fluid trainer, big plastic box of random parts. Wheels are such a pain in the ass to store.
Hooks in the celing work great for storing wheels. You can hang a whole wheelset from one hook by tying the two together with a toestrap or something.
problem is that i live in a small studio and most of this stuff has to go in a small storage closet on my balcony. i’ve already got 2 complete and four partial bikes living inside. i just need to get rid of some.
Cleaned up my bike mess and workbench.
Wish I had taken a ‘before’ picture. It was a fucking disaster area.
my laundry room from last year early spring when i started cleaning up and getting rid of stuff. i have since cleaned house[feels good man]. there are four more of those plastic storage things not visible to the right and at that time i think 5 frame/forks along with multiple wheelsets behind the laundry room door. complete bikes were upstairs.
Summer project to organize the garage and clean up the bike mess began last night with hanging 4 hooks for my rooommate’s and my commuter bikes.
Next step is to get a bunch of shelves and drawers to organize all the random parts that are just piled in boxes in the back. Also maybe to get some more hooks to hang extra wheelsets off the ceiling.
bump
gotta really slim down bike mess (moving into tiny apt) - i have 6 running bikes right now. 1 can live at a friends house (monday night drunk mountain bike TT only bike) and i’m trying to sell another.
leaves 4 bikes (road, cross, mtb, commuter) a few frames and a few milk crates of parts.
post pics of your compact bike mess please
I tried to organized parts and slim down on some stuff. Not sure if I made a difference or not. I want to sell some bikes(to make room for more).
^I like how it looks like your avatar, even the slight left to right lean of the rows.
I’ll take the cat.
If those are SRAM s500 levers, I’d be interested in directing money towards you for them.
tc: i love this thread
Current bike stack. Two complete cross bikes, one nearly complete road bike, four frames (including, sadly, what used to be my sweet fixie)

This is about 2/3 of the bike-related mess. Not included in my reckoning of what constitutes the “mess” is a bike-parking area with mine and supwief’s rideable bikes. I have vowed to clean all this up before embarking on any new bike projects, but that’s made tougher by the fact I ahve a few ongoing things that I am reluctant to squirrel away parts for just to have to dig them out later.
My shed (100 square feet). Currently houses 8 completes, 7 additional frames (inc tandem) most of which I intend to sell but never get around to, plus way too many wheels, parts (stashed in the bins along the back wall in warehouse shelving, etc
TC: I’d have an anxiety attack if I had a shed packed so tight with shit I wouldn’t be able to move in, followed by an OCD like organization frenzy that would leave everything spotless and perfect.
Spotless and perfect only if that OCD binge includes tripling the size of the thing.
But yeah, that would feel too cramped for me.
