If the film were moving in the opposite direction, it would be a mirror image of the one you see.

Here’s one I made with my computer webcam and ImageJ.

Here’s the video input.

The processing grabbed the middle (vertical) strip of pixels from each frame and put them edge to edge. My hand looks normal when it moves across one way, and is reversed when it travels the other way (opposite the direction of the image compilation/what the film direction would be). The leading edge of my hand is always at the left, since it’s recording from left to right.

Re: film direction: If the film were moving right to left, it would be like drawing the pixel columns starting on the left side. If it were moving left to right, it would be like drawing them starting on the right side. One produces a mirror image of the other.

Re: slit scan, something similar, albeit at a much higher speed, happens with cheap digital sensors that record on a line-by-line basis. Like this:

And one cheap way to do slit scan photography is with a large format camera with a flatbed scanner in place of the film plate.

Here’s another one.
Video:

The objects move across the line in opposite directions, but they point the same way in the final image.

so awzum

Apparently, the UCI told Freecaster, the company that provided exclusive video access to the the DH world cup races, that they would have to pay 130,000 euro for broadcast rights for 2012, so they told the UCI to fuck off and started their own pro race series that a number of pro teams have already signed up for. HMFY. Fuck the UCI.

This is awesome, but I truly have no fucking clue how blogs/people who CANNOT write properly garner any sort of audience on the web. It’s depressing and mind bloggling.
No more Freecaster DH action on Sunday mornings, more than a few people here have expressed their unhappiness over this.

This morning there were a few posts on various websites around the world about Freecaster starting there own DH Series, and we are happy to confirm that this is true. While not a replacement for the current UCI World Cup series, the DH1 series will be complimentary series, and the dates won’t interfere.
Well, pinkbike is run by a bunch of Canadian DH bros. They’ve probably been hit on the head a few times…

I still don’t get it (how they end up on the same side), so I’m gonna have to re-read this, experiment myself, and think harder on it. In the meantime I’ll believe you coz skinny arm cru.

EDIT: coz dropped parenthesis.

Non pro cycling related lulz:

It’s really funny if you’ve ever seen photos of this guy (he’s pretty hard to miss…)

Also not in the least bit surprising…

Dude looks like this:

and wears that fucking spiderman shit all the time.

bamfs?

That guy is gonna miss out on winning so many cases of Clif bars and pairs of socks.

What is up with those gloves?!

shoot webs?

look like dorky tracko gloves to me

I see the Fox logo, and they kinda looked like motocross/dirt biking gloves…or something. It doesn’t really matter.

holy shit

Shocking.

“After weeks of speculation and rumors, it’s finally official - road race world champion Mark Cavendish will ride for Team Sky in 2012. The 26-year-old sprinter and his HTC-Highroad team captain Bernhard Eisel were confirmed with Team Sky on Tuesday, just two weeks after Cavendish clinched his first road race world championship in Copenhagen, Denmark.”

Finally, geez.
