From the podcasts I’ve heard, the consensus mentality of the racers seemed to be that this was the first race with things back to normal. Organizers planned wave starts and social distancing at rest stops, but just about everyone that showed up was already vaccinated so they scrapped most of their safety protocols.

Aaand they DQed him. Even though the on-site UCI commissaire gave him permission to use them that morning when they ran it by him. The UCI is a gang of clowns, no offense to clowns. Or gangs.

Sounds like that’s what it came down to. 3 points of contact rule.

Edit: nope. They saw them on TV and didn’t like them. TBF, some other riders complained that they thought they were unsafe.

Today was a mess.
Roglic finished 3rd on a teammates bike 2cm too short. Kruijswijk somehow was just shy of 2min down when his bikes was completely missing left seat stay.

Sad the alpecin wearing their new kit after social media/peer pressure gets overshadowed by dumb German tourists holding signs to being down most of the field.

Still hell of a finish for this and the women’s race.
