Sprinters have always done this. Why not just tell the truth? Will they get some sort of penalty?

Apparently it was a failed attempt to appease the codgers yelling at clouds. https://www.eurosport.com/cycling/giro-d-italia/2021/eddy-merckx-criticises-caleb-ewan-for-giro-d-italia-exit-a-lack-of-professionalism-and-respect_sto8323621/story.shtml

grav grav on the giro stage is pretty rad, especially with one contender obviously scared of it.

That was fun! Great race. Things are shaping up for a very entertaining back half of the race.

The latest The Move podcast has a pretty great breakdown from Johan Bruyneel. He was one of the pundits that originally picked Remco and talked a bit about that. Basically it came down to Remco’s camp overhyping how ready he was and Bernal playing up his back injury. He now thinks Remco is cracked for the rest of the race. Just too many days of consecutive racing to jump into considering he only started riding a bike again this February.

Something else he brought up I found interesting is the star system they use to rate stages. We’re halfway done, but over 2/3rds of the stars are left. Yates is 82 seconds back and he’s kept his nose out of the wind entirely. Meanwhile Bernal and Evenepoel were fighting for bonus seconds at intermediate sprint points. Shaping up to be a fun conclusion.

That’s what the eurosports were on about during the race. Kinda makes sense. He hasn’t ever raced this many days in a row, and only recently came back from a serious injury.

I just watched some high-lights from the grav-grav Giro stage and recognised a bunch of roads from doing Eroica Montalcino a couple of years back! Some really cool roads in there for sure, some of them pretty steep.

Before the Giro started, Contador promised his team that he would ride from Madrid to Milan if they won a stage. He looks excited to go!

Tom Pidcock broke his collarbone on a training ride. He was found by another team rider lying in the road (conscious). This was his bike.

Oh no. Not his biggest fan because combo of British cycling plus Ineos makes me distrust, but that sucks.

holy shitballs!

Yikes :flushed:

Looks like a car hit him?

Indeed

Yeah, to me too. Not a lot out there about it atm. I’m amazed all they’re talking about is a collar bone looking at that bike.

I didn’t love him to begin with, but watching him take it on the chin with his head up week after week last cx season warmed me up to him a bit.

Yep, hit by a car

I know Ineos has some Darth Vader baggage, but that chicane - hairpin team move at the end today was just the bee’s knees. dayum.

That hairpin… who tf approved that?

Today’s stage ends on all of my old haunts when we lived in Grenoble. Pretty excited.
