Fucking bummer for Philipsen. Lots of “shit happens” crashes in the early days of this tour, but it feels like that little chicane in the last ~200m of the finish yesterday and the crashes it caused were just shitty route planning? Is there no rule about how straight a finish straight has to be? Just seems like a totally unforced error?

My hope is that JV is riding into peak form for week three. It certainly is possible. TP appeared to be without flaw in his last two grand tours, but he’s had had bad days in the past.
I think Wout has been playing possum and keeping his powder dry for some week three tactics like the ones we saw at then giro.
But then again, JV might crack on the next big climb and TP does a 10 day victory lap.
Could go either way.

Wout did get second the other day.
He was quiet in the Giro too but then hit an alleged all time best power to drag Yates to victory. I’ve got hope.
I also want to believe that all the talk from JV and Jumbo is just BS.
JV claiming it was his all time best effort to follow TP’s wheel the other day is not exactly a brag. If it’s true, he’s hosed. But my bet is that all the talk is somewhat scripted.
Edit: I had it in my head today (Monday) is a rest day. It most certainly is not.
Looking forward to doing my best to avoid spoilers until this evening.

I like the EF team, but I hate having to think about the Education First company all the time because they’re such a shit organization. I’ve heard way too many stories about how the educational tours they organize over-promise, under-deliver and are often very disorganized.
