Randonneurs (randos), use metric for distances; it'll make them feel like a longer ride: rando chat‽

I yolo’d a 600k after a year of just bike commuting everywhere
2 300k days with 8 hours of sleep in the middle and plenty of time to stop for snax
It’s more about being comfortable on the bike than it is about speed atmo
But either way I bet you’ll be fine

I’ve made the mistake of not doing 2-3-4-600 in a row twice. It ended terribly

nice

I guess we are lucky over here then as all of the bikepacking events allow drafting. I think that’s what I like about them, the social side of it.

wait waaat - how’d you yolo 8 hours of sleep without missing control closings?

It’s not that hard; If you can pull the first 350k in 16 hours that gives you 11 spare hours before you’re up against control closing times. A few years ago I rode one of my 600k perms and got 11/7 hours (I rerode it with some other randonerds the weekend after my first ride) at the overnight control, and you can bet your ass I took full advantage of that time.

What is a control
I did it by myself fully loaded, including a 7lb tent, a pair of cotton khakis, whole spare tire, and a bunch of other embarrassingly heavy stuff, via a route I highlighted on 4 paper maps of Wisconsin
It was 4th of July weekend so after a day of riding I watched fireworks and ate pie and slept next to a baseball field in a county park
Finished in 39:57 which is two minutes too fast atmo

Did you ride it as a brevet or a perm? A long ride that happens to be 600k is not a randonneuring event

There are rules

A control is where you stop to get proof of passage; a brevet is sort of like an motorsport rally, except that you don’t stage at controls.

I didn’t wear a reflective vest if that’s what you mean

Seems legit

Fuckin
“Rando type rides” over here
Just because it’s a long ride it doesn’t make it a brevet.

Like saying “oh I went out to a movie” when actchually you just made popcorn at netflixed

“what is art”

kidding

Mig gets pretty defensive about brevets.

I ride a yearly, unsanctioned 200k ride with controls, but it’s not sanctioned by RUSA.

It’s still a brevet though.
