Never ever would I have pictured myself purchasing a tandem, but this showed up at my door for $430. How could I say no?

Jack Taylor Tourist Tandem 1970’s custom built for seller’s great uncle, who put 6500 miles on it according to the odometer. Bottle dynamo with in-frame wiring for headlight. Hi-E hubs and phil wood BBs. Paint matched custom racks. 700c wheels with gobs of clearance. I don’t know exact measurements but it seems like a M/L captain and S/M stoker.

That is gorgeous.

Lovely! 700c rims with clearance is really nice.

Thank you for saving me from that. It’s gorgeous and will be super sweet with some TLC.

 that pinstriping!

I just need someone to ride it with. Not sure I’m going to convince Mrs Smitty and the kids are too small. maybe I find one of those kid back things

Get a good suspension seatpost for the stoker and find some nice smooth roads for the first ride. I rode with sup on a tandem once, and it was glorious (she is scared and slow when she rides on her own bike so I have to drop 5-10 mi of speed to stay with her, but on a tandem she can’t get dropped or chicken out of riding into intersections, and we were quite a bit faster than my own normal pace), but she hated getting whacked by bumps she didn’t see coming so that was that.

That’s a good tip. My wife would probably bike more but has never found a saddle that treats her well (although I’ve also had 5 bike fits and still get uncomfortable after like 30 minutes)

Pretty sure this is a fairly tandem specific post I ended up with, anyone need a 28.6 chairpole?

God I wish my tandem took that it would make life so much easier

would be normal to shim down from a 29.8 or bigger to that

26.4 in the rear and 25.8 in the front!
