Road Shoes

My sidis are hittin the dust. Time to move on to something new for next year.

Can’t help but ogle over a pair of these:

They got uglier for '11 though :frowning: And I’m going to have to ebay them cuz not paying retail for those shoes, no matter how badass they are.

I have all winter to decide. What else should I consider?

I can EP shimano, so there’s always that route…

Brent has these:

He seems to like them, but doesn’t plan on wearing them in the winter (esp considering how well ventilated they are. won’t do well in the rain).

They also have the slightly cheaper, women’s version of their elite road shoe:

Girly though… Not sure i’m into it.

Really I should just go try some on, but trying on doesn’t really apply to the moldable ones. What else is there?

Better yet - what works for winter? What can I get now that’ll keep my feet toasty?

Was looking at cheap stuff, like pearl izumi shoes, but they look like crap.

S-Works shoes are the true fucking badass option. No point in considering anything else. Or Sidis again.

zak warrantied his s-works shoes and came home with a pair of these:

fred meets pro, all in one shoe.

White is obviously the answer to the question you just didn’t ask.

only half white this year,…
white / red or white /black

hot as fuck

Mavic Zxellium has been keeping me happy for awhile now. The foot bed it so great that I can leave them really loose and my feet still don’t move around in the shoe. I’ve got the Fury for dirt duty too.

Went from Sidi’s to Specialized on my MTB shoes, super impressed by the fit. Zero foot movement in the shoe, no hot spots, no angry feet. I’m sure the S-Works road would be even better, as I’m on the next step down shoe.

FYI, Sidi and Specialized sizing runs a little different. I had to go a full size down from Sidi to Specialized.

CARNAC

tc: not into those sworks shoes

i got a pair of these on the cheap.
i think im in love

yes i know. shimano is the same… sidis run small I think. i plan on trying on the specialized at river city eventually, if i ever make it down there.

Interested in trying those on if I can find a place that stocks em, cuz we can EP those too I think. Would neer do the mavic yellow though. Too hideous.

DMT is still my all time fave but 2011 Shimano is MUCH better and finally lighter than 2010 stuff.

I used Mavic shoes before I switched to DMT and pulled them out of the closet when I was trying a new pedal system. Put them on, realized how much they sucked, and took the right back off.

dromarti race
you know you want to.

The mavics don’t look excellent in photos - but i’ve never looked at them up close in person to see if they’re made cheaply, but usually you can tell. Cheap shoes just don’t look right…

Our coach stands by DMT as the best shoe made.

He rides the DMT pista shoe (Only in races though… brings a different pair even just for warming up)

Hard to compare road shoes without actually riding in them though, so I’m not sure how much trying stuff on accomplishes (other than for the sake of picking the right size).
I don’t feel like I can go wrong with the s-works, but i’m going to have to either watch ebay like a hawk or fork over the $$.

These look badass though…

r these gud??

These shoes… I has them.

Saving these for next season.

Won’t wear anything else ever again (except Shimano winter shoes because my feet are big babbys when it gets cold).

You can still try 'em on. The heat-moldable business doesn’t make that much of a difference. It’s more of a gimmick, really.

Those DMTs are hot.

I’ve got Mavic shoes and I love them. Been riding the Chasm almost daily for a year, and they don’t look like they are gonna wear out any time soon. Fairly light as well, for a mtb shoe. I’ll buy a pair of their road shoes if the need for the ever comes up. Not those yellow ones though, yuck.

TC: I hate performance shoe design
