Saddle Sores

FUCKING OUCH.
I’m extremely glad that I don’t wear these now.

I hate riding in pants with a zipper, I’m a commando and they rub my shaft raw!

I tried some of those Novara shorts from REI the ones that are made to wear under pants and they were the most god awful things ever. I need to look into other shorts.

Wear underwear. Ick.

Serious. The worst night of my life was when my bud Ben who always goes commando rubbed his gooch raw and was limping home bleeding and I had to help him get up the stairs while he screamed in pain. Then he got in my bathtub and tried to wash it out and got blood all over the bathroom in the process. He couldn’t walk for like two days.

Woah.

So has anyone tried creaming-up their taint before rides? Do you use the specialized stuff or just plain ole vaseline? Does it feel weird to have slimy bike shorts?

Also there seems to be some confusion between saddle sores/irritation and sore butt/junk. These are two very different things and I’m talking about the former.

I was getting a hard pimple type sore right where butt cheek meets inner thigh. Assos cream worked for me. For short rides (1 hour a just dab a little on strategic areas.
Epic rides, I put a generous amount on the chamois paying particular attention to the inner thigh area. I avoid the nut sack. The tingly feeling is a bit much .

Will most shops have this stuff in stock?

This.
What the fuck guys?
I’ve never owned cycling shorts and I’ve never had a saddle sore in my life.
Sometimes I wear boxers, sometimes I wear briefs, sometimes I freeball. It makes no difference.
My bikes fit me so they don’t hurt to ride.
so point it down?

it’s pretty broken in now, i think i can point it down…
are you talking about your weiner or the seat?

for serious.

i dont even know anything about bikes or setting them up, am running a $40 (retail…got for 10) velo saddle, really weird seat post that no one has, and im fine. sometimes i put the cycling shorts under my letter carrier shorts but rarely. its just a hassle when i wanna go ride “right now”

maybe i have accidentally found the zen.

what are all you doing on a saturday in the middle of the day writing on a message board about taintpain. i just got up. now im going to ride. see ya.

keep in mind that some people have sensitive skin

^ whoa. right. this i did not think of. that would suck.

Yeah, I think this has a whole bunch to do with your bike set ups. As far as your junk going numb, time to angle those saddles downward, guys. Even the slightest bit will help. Having your piece go numb constantly and just dismissing it is the quickest way to find yourself with a Viagra prescription.

As far as saddle sores, those are linked to your saddle fit as well but usually not a result of short rides. Sometimes it’s unavoidable which is why those cremes exist. Use them and save yourself the pain.

Most shops have some kind of butt butter but, the Assos stuff is hard to find. High end shops have it or I order it online.

I gots alligator skin.

Nah, doesn’t feel weird. I use oil but I should probably try that Assos cream though it’s a bit spendy… before lubing, I didn’t understand why I was getting chaffage even though I was wearing shorts. After that, no more chaffage as long as everything’s lubed and not dried up. I use oil every time the shorts go on, though that’s mostly for long distance rides and the track - sometimes for commuting too if I plan on running lots of errands on the bike and it’s hot out (in which case the shorts go under the jeans). The lube also prevents sores a good amount for me, though not always.

PS yes I have sensitive skin and weird genetics when it comes to stuff like that. I get ingrown hairs easier than other people too and suffer the wrath when I hurry too fast while shaving or do it too often… Don’t hate cuz some of you guys were born with better luck.

PPS Anyone tried Performance Elite or Ultra shorts? My Pearl Izumi’s are on their last lap and it’s annoying only owning one pair of shorts…

My Perf Elites are pretty nice. Worth a try. The bibs are definitely worth a try. I’d get them on sale though, they aren’t as durable as they could be.

oh also - i hope everyone does this or has this reflex - when i see rough spots ahead of me i’ll raise myself up out of the saddle a bit to avoid getting hammered by the road.

I ride Izumi Pro MicroSensor bibs. I’ve tried other brands at about the same price but was not happy with the
fit, butt/chamois interface.

If Izumi’s work for you…
