I’m glad to see this–I have a partial dependency on eggbeaters and I wasn’t sure this could be done.
Also glad to see Steve wrestle something that won’t bite back.
Yeah I youtubed it, a russian dude I think. I had to put a shit load of effort into it, with a very large screw driver wedged under the wings. They have some pale blue loctite on the male threads. It wasn’t half as scary as it looks. I just took photo of the thing insitu before I fully pulled the centre sleeve out. I like the way you can put each of the pedals on each side, incase you are prone to munting one side over the other. I did some alloy candies too. They are frick all lighter than entry level shimano so it really makes zero sense, except for CX I guess where they clear mud well.
They clear mud very well–for CX it’s my go-to. As if I raced CX much anymore.
The ice/snow resistance is the main reason I won’t give 'em up completely.
Fuucck
How??
Damn. Didn’t you get those wheels like last week?
Oof, hope they have a good rock strike policy.
According to zipp site, protected against nearly everything while riding your bike.
I have no idea how/when it actually happened. I hit some rocks, as one does on a gravel ride. There weren’t any that stuck out as memorable, though.
This was my first ride on these wheels.
Cushcore cx would have prevented this. I’ll never go back. Bombing through rutted powerline cuts knowing that there is no way in hell I’m going to crack a rim feels good man.
I’m definitely coming around to the idea. Tannus vs cushcore vs vittoria?
having dealt with other tannus products i’d put money on vittoria being a better option
I can’t speak for Vittoria but cush core has been top notch. Was relatively easy to get mounted and not too back to remove to swap tires.
Somebody (Pinkbike?) did a review of all the major inserts. Cushcore, Rimpact, and Vittoria were the top 3.
This was for MTB tires, but I would guess the skinny inserts are comparable.
tc: i will likely never use tannus bc all the people who tell me tannus is good are historically extremely annoying
cushcore works well. they do their job and keep you moving. people seem to like their vittoria stuff too
I’ve no complaints about Vitoria on my big mtb. Easy enough to install and uses any tubeless valve. It does ‘stretch’ like chains, lol. Okay the hole you punch for the zip tie can cut a larger hole and get a bit floppy and noisy over bumps until you zip it tighter.
how are two foam circles almost as much as actual tires?
I have beat the shit out my gravel cushcores. They look like they were used as tug-of-war dog toys. Zero installation problems if you RTFM and make sure you push the bead under the Cush.
Use the buttplug tool?
I’m going to get some for my rigid ride-to-the-trails derpderp bike. Maybe mix and match Vittoria sizes since front is like 27.5 x 2.1 and back is 650 x 42.
