My da9000 cranks creak like whoa
Whoa, my cranks don’t creak at all. Are you by any chance using an adapter?
Naw he probably just has a failed glue bond and it’s slowly falling apart.
You should probably inspect them.
Failure mode leaves a sharp edge. I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone seriously hurt yet.
Where to pay most attention?
Right around the inside flat surface of the crank is a seam. That’s a glue bond. That’s where I’ve seen the failure that isn’t the pinch bolts. You should check for cracks there too. Creaking is probably the pinch bolts. Or your BB is shot

Check here.
Also look around the chainring bolt holes with the rings off. That’s were I have seen voids start.
I’ve only seen issues with da9k, but they were almost entirely started with internal corrosion that slowly separated the bond, which supports your theory. Pinch bolts often appear to be the issue because they will first crack right next to the bolt, but it’s a false correlation to assume someone over tightened. Once the bond is separating, it will crack here when you tighten to normal load.
Regardless, the failure numbers for 9000 and 6800 are very low considering the millions of cranks made that are still out in the world.
It also seems to take quite a bit of time for enough moisture to corrode the inside, which is I think why these failures pop up years after most of these cracks were manufactured.
A customer comes in and points at a set of v-brakes and says I need a lever for these.
3 hours later I get a call and it’s this customer calling to tell me he’s having trouble with the levers. He tells me he unscrewed cable on the old levers and a bunch of oil spilled out.
That’s all.
lol
Oh man I love it
I hope you told him he must have overheated his brakes and melted the cable.
Hydraulic Magura rim brakes, maybe?
that would be an excellent twist
I busted a dropout on an aluminum 9zero7 years ago and finally put it out at the curb for bulk pickup. Intended to get a pic of it on the pile this weekend but some scrapper (I’m guessing) snapped it right up. I’m kinda bummed by that but it was a paperweight and scrap was about all its good for?
could also be a kid that thinks he just made his big score
That will be a life-ruining project if so (135mm offset, 100mm bb, e-type fd, 44mm head tube, you name it it is fucked)
Wow that bike sucks lol.
Reminds me of my gen 1 pugsley
Ha I replaced the frame with a Pugsley and still had to buy a fuckton of parts (but at least most of them were a little more normal).
