Wrenching adventure?
Was it press fit by design or fate?

I don’t even understand how you break some of the things you break sometimes.

My dad had one of these crack on a tour in Canada in the early aughts!

This thing had a crack in it already and the plastic was all weird and crumbly.

Oh, a plastic one!

I didn’t know anyone actually used those on bikes that saw real use.

in shimano-land:

the low-end BB-UN26 used a plastic cup because cheap

the mid-end BB-UN55 used an aluminum cup because higher quality than plastic

the high-end BB-UN73 used a plastic engineered polymer cup because lighter than aluminum

This was a un55 with whatever cup was laying around. The bike was built up with parts bin junk to sell cheap on CL but that never happened.

BB-UN54 came with a plastic cup and there was a separate alloy cup available for the UN54/UN26.

I’ve broken plenty of plastic BB cups in my day

I had a very nasty feel in my drivetrain when coasting on my 2x1. Was smooth under load but felt like wheel was full of gravel or something when unloaded. Pulled off the freehub and it was not pretty. I quite liked that wheelset but probably not worth buying a new freehub for. I had another 26er wheel lying about with a braking surface, and a disc so am using that now. Will remove disc later. Or not.

running low psi?
looks like they might not like your tire pressure.
