Say it ain't so: The Assploded Bike Parts Picture Thread.

I replaced a R8000 with a RS510 recently. I can double check if it’s forged.

lol I just got a used R9100 crankset that has “RE” which is the second to last date code covered in the recall program

I just checked my various cranks and have one that’s RG, the first date code not covered (yet)

Gonna put “bought a frame from ThanksShimano” on the “ever met a celeb?” parts of dating profiles from now on

I wanna find a cheap broken one now

T-shirts drop on Monday. Some of the profits will go towards purchasing upgraded bike racks for the park here that hosts the farmers market and the elementary school my kid goes to because their poor little rack is always overfilled.

Dentist forums has the scoop

So basically if it hasn’t maimed you yet it doesn’t count?

pretty much, yeah.

I think all the publications calling this a “recall” is a bit of a misnomer, I think its actually a “voluntary inspection and replacement” program

It’s registered with the CPSC as a recall, it’s definitely a recall.

Mine have the covered NC code, so yay I suppose.

but it still needs to break first?

Yeah, RS520 is forged. Newer R8000 for reference.

I guess most of us think of a recall as a “replace or fix” thing, but apparently it can also be an “inspect and go from there” thing.

Ya hate to see it.

I use the same lock. It’s a great lock and it’s awesome to be able to remove my lock one handed with no faffing about with keys but it’s clearly pretty low security. Not that any lock offers real security.

Edit: to be clear, this isn’t mine, just a lock I saw on the street this morning.

iirc @jame5on cut his with a cordless jigsaw

i love my bordo though. i got the centum or whatever the “classy” one is called

I like my Bordo, too. It normally lives on the Lorry, which gets separate front and rear wheel locks so even if it gets cut or otherwise defeated they’re not likely to carry away an 80 lb bike.

The one time it was used on another bike was on the Katu and when I went to unlock it I hadn’t changed the code to actually lock it in the first place.

It’s not uncommon for me to leave my key in my lock
