Say it ain't so: The Assploded Bike Parts Picture Thread.

Sheeit. Is that on your custom adapter?

I think that you run the bolts through the big ring, into the threaded holes in the small ring. The small ring has a raised circle around the threaded hole that looks like it’s the same diameter of a chainring bolt, which should keep it stable in the crank. Looking at it, I’m worried that the raised circles will wear down, and there will be play between the rings and the crank.

I don’t understand at all what the spacers that are supposed to go on the bottom bracket are for.

all of that makes sense, other than the spacer part. Maybe the inner ring is thicker for some reason. Test and report back!

I was asking for trouble. Supple-ass Ikons vs rocky AF trails. Put the armoured sidewall tires on when I got home.

I fucking love Hope stuff, only tool needed for this operation was a tweezer. Didn’t have to take the lever off, no need to empty the system of oil. Just pop the lever assembly of and go to town!

ultimate save of assploded parts?

spoke used to safety-wire the seam back together

tire is epoxied onto the rim

not pictured is apparently ~750ml of sealant, and a tube full of additional sealant, and those expensive pool noodles people are putting in their tires. 7.83 pounds of rear wheel assembly!

Impressive, but I was a little confused at the outset about doing that vs taking the penalty. I guess all the kludging took place between stages? I guess I didn’t understand immediately that even swapping wheels between stages incurred a penalty. I suppose 5 minutes is a lifetime in that sport. Glad he didn’t die!

Maybe @frank_doktor can explain the need? Either way it’s pretty badass ingenuity and guts to ride that shit.

my takeaway from that story: Enduro is like Rando (cuz the rules, man)

Normally in the EWS races, they place stickers on the wheels, frame, and fork (maybe more). But the whole idea is that you have to use the same stuff over the course of a day or two. I guess tire changes are allowed, but I imagine the idea is still self-sufficiency/even-ish playing field to the extent that factory teams would have way more at their disposal than a privateer (as seen by team mech doing all this for him). Most normies are just like, fuck it, I’m done.

But that is pretty incredible overall.

Friend just posted this.
Carried home this new Wok purchase via bike.

That’s hilarious. How they’re alright

That is definitely not a good place to carry a wok.

Just riding along. Noticed a slight shimmy and didn’t pay much attention to it. Five minutes later a disturbing bounciness in the front end of my bike.

Sad face.

I built this bike on a course back in 2014. Fortunately no harm done to me at all, I was only going about 10km/h when it happened and I was pulled over and off the bike within a couple of seconds.

It planes tho

That always amazes me when a tube breaks like that

Yowza. It looks like it broke right at the point on the lug. Are you going to replace the tube?

Yes, the crack is right on the point of the lug on the bottom side of the down tube.

The bike does have a fair amount of sentimental value, so I’ll definitely be exploring options for replacing the downtube. At the same time, it is the bike that I wanted back then when I built it, which is not the same as the bike I would want now. It is a light tourer, room for 700x28s with fenders (it has plenty of your stuff on there - headset, handlebars, Grand Cru brakes, fenders and racks) where as these days I would prefer to have disc brakes, space for fatter 650B tyres… I really don’t have the money for a whole new bike, though.
