Say it ain't so: The Assploded Bike Parts Picture Thread.

I’m gonna go with sus fork with blown seals that was outside and got salt inside of the fork leg which then corroded from the inside out over time.

I just spotted the most broken bike I’ve ever seen.

What even happened to break the front tire like this???

I have no clue what caused the fork to rot and I don’t really wanna find out

At first I was thinking a big jump, cased.

But second pic says attempted theft by bolt cutters.

Yeah, this thing isn’t rotten, it’s destroyed. It kinda looks like it was run over by a bus to me.
That front wheel has a bunch of broken spokes and it looks like the ta dropout is crushed.

i’ve seen a bike share bike that was run over by a bus. this doesn’t speak for every bike share cyclist getting run over by a bus but the bike wasn’t actually broken in two anywhere (the rider lived, but did break a leg pretty bad)

They were just trying to remove the gps unit and the tool slipped

The tire being cut, and the way the rim is pinched, not fractured or torn or indented from one direction all say bolt cutters to me.

lol do the divvy vines have a gps?

I think that thing fell victim to multiple traumas. I’m thinking a group of folks having a bike smashing party.

Yes, and I’m told there’s an easy way to remove it

They may not even work anymore, seems like a dumb use of resources

This is a good read (which also just reminded me they don’t have gps)

Wow, 500 missing bikes

Wonder what the missing piece is. Presumably something that latches the docking component on the bike very tightly.

I was riding through Washington Park the other day and I saw a Divvy leaning against a wall that had all the paint scraped off and was just bare aluminum.

When I visited Chicago I had a great time riding a divvy to a bar to have a beer with Rudy

I always make sure to ride bike share bikes as hard as I can, like really slam them around and launch off every curb I can. Makes me feel like a kid again.

The piece was a locking mechanism that was hard to engage and made it feel like you were locked in when you weren’t, leaving @LASER_BEIGE with a huge bill

Pretty sure they’re back now, we now have e-bikes popping up so hopefully they’ve figured it all out

True story

Lemmie get this straight, MiG rode around on a Divvy, returned it but it wasn’t solidly connected to the docking station, then it was swiped off the dock and MiG got charged for the bike?

Yes but

I had a Strava recording of where I left it and the customer assistance person was like “oh this happens all the time, try not to do it again” and then refunded my $deposit or whatever

Edit:I had so much fun in Chicago with you dudes
