That bike looks neither laterally stiff nor vertically compliant.
it looks like it complied quite readily
Crumple zones. Maybe Volvo should start making frames.
Yeah, when you think about how much money people pour into insurance, compared to how much money insurance companies actually pay people…well, you know. It’s just like whoa.

i know that they have to make money but i agree with you. when i got hit in my car back in december it took my insurance company over a month to look at it/get it fixed and wouldnt even pay for the body shop to use oem parts. not to mention i wasnt even at fault and the other persons insurance was covering it in the long run. i have premium insurance too and was paying close to $2500/year. /rant

I have no regrets getting a lawyer and getting 10 grand out of my accident. I was almost killed. My body caved in a lady’s windshield because she didn’t bother to look before she turned left. I’m uber lucky to have escaped the whole deal with only very minor shoulder pain on rare occasions and a tiny scar on my arm. Oh yeah and some rad bikes and some chiropractic visits.
Y’all need to calm down on Anita, it’s not like she wants some huge pain and suffering payout. Damn.
Don’t get me wrong guys, in high school I was in a head on car wreck and collected a tidy sum. However, making shit up and pretending things are worse than they are only perpetuates an already terrible system. Do you seriously think the insurance company takes the hit when they have to make a payout? Maybe initially. . . You don’t seriously think I’m an advocate of insurance companies, do you? Though I can reconcile it’s necessity, I’m sickened by laws requiring you to have it. What a racket.
i’m not. if nobody was required to have insurance then nobody would have it. which means the OP would be stuck to trying to get a payout from the person that didn’t care enough to even look around before she turned and almost killed him.
I guess you missed the first half of that sentence when i acknowledged it’s necessity.
it’s, it’s like a business or something. ew.
A business that we’re all forced to engage with and which should therefore be made the subject of increased government scrutiny.
I don’t know about your neck of the woods, but in Ontario, car insurance is FUCKED. I’ll never forget the time I went away to school so my dad dropped me from his insurance. Apparently he “absorbed” my accident (which is pretty dubious to begin with) which put him over some invisible line, so his insurance company dropped him. Then he couldn’t find a company to take him for less than 4 times what he was paying. Of course his insurance agent had no idea this would happen. Makes me wonder what the hell they do to draw a salary…
So anyway, fucking corrupt.
yeah I mean I really don’t see what the problem is with wishing I could have gotten money to get some work done on my knee that I hit when I crashed because a speeding car hit me. just because I am able to walk does not mean that it feels 100% what it was before I landed on it
and that $10,000 settlement is exactly what I’m talking about - there’s obviously money out there that will cover stuff like massage, acupuncture
we are not trained to think like lawyers, you people need to get over thinking that there is something morally wrong about getting money for getting hurt
your injury does not have to be debilitating for it to be obnoxious and for you to get money to make it more comfortable
the system is a game, turning away free money or physical therapy or whatever is not going to fix anything
I thought you had me on ignore. It’s the me first attitude that perpetuates the problem from the consumers end. What happens to a game no one is playing?
There’s nothing wrong with getting compensated when you’re hurt due to someone else’s thoughtlessness/recklessness. This was your reply to a thread titled “so i got hit by a car, im fine, but my bike is not”
I wish I’d gotten a plate number when I got hit last week (the week before? I don’t remember)
I could have gotten acupuncture or a chiropractor or something out of it, probably
there is probably more that you can get out of this than just bike money, you should ask around to see if there’s a lawyer who specializes in bike stuff too
I highlighted the pertinent parts for you.
No more baiting this guy. We obviously see the world from very different perspectives, and I’m tired of playing out these dramas. I’m done.
“fine” is a relative definition, you know? I’m fine too, but my knee hurts sometimes
often settlements from accidents can be greater than the cost of the bike, I advocated for a lawyer because lawyers think about stuff like “oh, your back hurts? free massage” whereas we, as bikers, are conditioned to think “oh I’ve wrecked worse than this mountain biking”
why would i have you on ignore? i think you’re the bees knees.
I figured when you said you could, you did.
in a friendly tone
That’s just it though, it’s not a “free massage”. I agree you’re justified in being made whole again, but your OP came across to me as advocating making stuff up. If not, we’re on the same page. I collected considerably more than kyle many moons ago for something that wasn’t my fault, so I can’t help but agree that their need to be measures in place to make things right.
oh no I was just testing to see whether you were actually immortal
don’t worry though you are immortal in other ways
I guess my OP was more advocating not viewing the normal aches and pains that you get after wrecking as just collateral damage, and I view lawyers as pretty helpful in that respect
