so pissed - local radio show takes cracks at cyclists

apparently a local radio station had a “comedian” on this morning that was making “jokes” about cyclists. i didn’t hear it, and the station already took the podcast down, but i was forwarded an e-mail that i’m gonna paste below. if you have lots of free time and feel like writing some angry e-mails, please do.

Although JJO has not released a transcript from this mornings show, here’s a few quotes I found from a earlier show on the JJO website that’s about similar.

The skit was called:
Bike Path of Death: How to take out a cyclist.
Download it here:

Some disturbing Quotes.
J. Danger “The one thing the people in this city are sick of is bicyclists”

Comedian “The basic idea is instead of killing deer we take out bicyclists in the Dane county area because we feel they’re flamers and should be shot at”

Comedian “Bicyclists tend to hover around areas that are gay and retarded”

Comedian “This is someone who needs to be taken off the planet as soon as possible, shoot him! shoot him!”

Gun Shots heard
Comedian “Yeah, I bagged me a nancy boy, woo hoo!”

Comedian “Remember the only bicyclist who isn’t a pain in your as s is a dead one on the side of the road”

J. Danger “That’s one down about 30,000 to go”

Unknown: "The opinions of J Danger don’t necessarily reflect those of Midwest Family Broadcasting J. Danger Interrupts “oh yes they do, yes they do, I guarantee you they do!”

Second forwarded e-mail:

I’m not sure if anyone else was listening to 94.1 WJJO this morning in Madison but they had a segment of the program dedicated to making fun of bikers around 7:20 or so. The morning hosts talked about how they loved to roll down their windows and yell things at the lame bikers like “nice spandex you fairy!” It went on for a few minutes.

I’m not sure if I’m blowing it out of proportion, but with all the crap I take from drivers on my daily commute it really struck a nerve with me. I’ve had many drivers yell things at me or nearly clip me, so knowing one of them is a local DJ bothers me. I’ve contacted the station and their owners, will no longer listen, and am going to contact as many of their sponsors as possible. Feel free to forward on or delete.

Damn. That’s pretty messed up. It just fundamentally bothers me when anyone makes light of violence and killing like that, regardless of who it’s directed at.

You should cross-post this in A&S on bikeforums. It might be a small subforum, but they would be outraged.

Edit: apparently it’s already up in the road forum.

it’s funny because it’s true!

gay AND retarded?

Is this “comedian” fucking 7 years old? Thats not even remotely funny. Replace cyclists with anything else and its still not funny.

yeah.

funny=antonym of that jackass’ bit

Not even triathletes!?

nope.

“Tirathelete” is the punchline in itself.

its time for me to use my favorite words

misogyny

and

homophobia

:colbert:

WOW… Just by going to that site you can tell that the station must suck. Time to start writing E-mail.

About a year ago a station here in Albuquerque aired some similar shit talking about swerving at cyclists and a bunch of other shit. The owners of a few shops around down sent a letter to most of the advertisers on the station and a copy to clear channel or whoever. it didn’t take to long before the Talkers apologized.

So true.

Wow.
I’ll write an email after I get out of class.

Damn folks. Harden up.

To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld:

I am not offended as a cyclist, Im offended as a comedian.

Yeah

talking shit is one thing, jokingly advocating violence is another.

Fuck those guys.

We had a local radio host talking about how cyclists were supposed to dismount and get in the crosswalk

before crossing any streets*. I loled.

*A child was hit riding in a crosswalk with her parents and siblings and he was attempting to pass

the blame from the driver to the minor.

I miss doofo.

radio shows like this thrive on shock value and appealing to the hatred of some while injuring the sensitivities of others. the consequences aren’t their concern. if anyone has seen the fisher king (one of robin williams’ handful of good movies), the opening scenes sort of illustrate that.
