Souplesse Casings and Bike Soup - The Tire Thread

It me.

this, but i kinda swizzle the hot spoke around so they the valve gasket doesn’t really have to stretch anything too much

Yeah I’ve found that since the tape doesn’t really stretch, if the hole you make is too small you get a big leaky tear like Luke described.

I’ve done the hot awl poke, then cleaned it up by running an xacto knife around the hole. Seems to have worked out okay so far.

I used to get all fancy with a hot sharpened spoke, then quickly jamming the valve in while it was still warm. Now it’s poke it and send it.

I poke with a metal pick. Not hot, doesn’t matter. I usually poke from the spoke side so that I don’t end up off center

I just smash the valve through the tape and then tighten it down and THEN I have lots of unexplained slow leaks. That’s showbiz, baybeee

Wow I can’t believe how fragile the sidewalls on GP4K2s are. I will keep riding the set that is still mounted but are the 5K any better?

???

They’re very delicate and scratch up easily. People report the sidewalls getting cut and worn before the tread

Not in my experience?

I had a set for way too long and they squared out before the sidewalks went

supple lyfe man. the gp4kiis was a phenomenal road tire. it’s just a road tire though.

Really enjoying the Thunder Butts on my dumb parts bin camper bike.

Very lucky that these exposures measure 30.00, which is exactly what Shimano rates this brake to

That’ll make some noize when it’s wet

My front fender has maybe about 5 mm of clearance. It’s kinda comical when I suck up some leaves or something. They’ll hang around for a bit, buzzing, before they get vomited out.

I’m really glad I got a pair of them in 26” size before they disappeared.

Didn’t even know 26" Butts existed!
