Looking for a 40-50mm 700c tire. Runny hoss Hatcher pass? Something else? I’m 50/50 road and gravel, with some trail or 4wd roads

Conti Terra Hardpack 50. I’ve used the 650x50 for some mixed surface long days with lots of underbiking. It’s a conti. It’s great.

Challenge Getaway 40 or 45. I ride/race these in 40. These tires fuck.

Conti Terra Speed 40. I have not tried these yet but according to testing they are fast AF.

Conti Terra Trail. The thinking man’s RH knobby.

You’re a hoss, thank you. I’ll stop into the shop next time i’m in Richmond - we are only an hour away now

my second time pinch flatting a Continental GP5000 S TR 32mm with a small tear through the casing, that was fine with a tube

both times were on vertically stiff carbon road rims hitting a square edge hard, wondering if that’s the main factor or the suppleness of the tires

Fred what’s up with flipping your bike upside down to fix a flat like a 1950s newsboy? I never do it due to fear of scuffing my hoods and saddle but have noted that you and other esteemed cyclists in my acquaintance are fine with it.

WTH do you do then?

Pull the wheel and leave the bike awkwardly lying on the nds, scuffing my pedal and or qrs as i go

I like to hang mine from a tree branch, scaffolding, etc

I did the same, twice, hitting a square edge hard with vertically stiff carbon rims.

Eventually the rim died from the abuse.

DQ: currently have Silca sauce which you’re not supposed to inject through the valve stem. Now I want to install a noodle, and I’m anticipating difficulty. Is there a way to get the noodle and the sauce together in the calzone without making a huge mess?

what grippy tire will you run?

I’ll be running Challenge getaway 40. I suspect the Conti Race King could be marginally better. But I’ve not tested them first hand and the Challenge tires have been flawless thus far. Plus we have a “sponsor” deal with them so I’m showing a little brand loyalty. Hopefully nott to my disservice.

All that aside, I don’t trust the compound on wet pavement as much as black chili. But it’s expected to be dry and their is little pavement anyway. Wet pavement grip and wet gravel grip are not the same thing though.

Wet gravel grip is not the same as wet gravel grip 20 miles over

True. It’s going to always vary by use case, but I’m starting to buy into the racer approach of “run the fastest tread you can justify and cross your fingers”.

Easiest tubeless setup I’ve ever done. Floor pump, no tube, no soap , nothing. Just pump and it seats
