One of my Mezcals got the wrinkles real quick. The others have been good. I decided the day before a 4 day off road ride to get a new tire. I thought I would cut up the old bald Mezcal and thread some straps thru it to stop shit moving around on my bike. I had to use 3 different knives before I could poke a fecking hole in the black part of the tread ! That stuff is strong.
Was gonna crack the beads on the plastic bike to prep for getting back out but I took it off the hook and they’re both still holding pressure so I’m just gonna give them both a squirt
lol my partner just had to put 5 layers of tape on their rim (along with zip ties, maxing out the compressor, and multiple attempts) to get some panaracer tires to seat
My first tubeless experience was mounting a used set of RH knobs on a pair of Velocity Quills. I had to wrap 8 layers of 3m tape to get those bastards to seat. That was after soapy water, compressor, etc. etc.
Never again, Jan!
Holy moly that EXT tire looks like the squirmiest piece of shit ever!
Well, actually that still make that tire, and tubeless too
My brother and I ride together a lot, he never notices anything about the bike he’s riding. I bought him an MTB that had this tire on the rear and the first ride he stopped and was like “what the fuck is wrong with this bike?”
On the other hand, my gravel kings are the easiest tire Ive ever tublessed. I dont have a compressor. I hate them anyway. Feel very slow.
oh and probably a thunderbutts in there as well
When I first got into mtb/tubeless I had these on 26er. The bike came with Pythons and I had no clue about tire pressure yet and washed out a bunch. Putting these on was wild… slow, yes. Also un-crashable.

What game is that?
Spelling bee
So I ended up getting Volummys instead of RTPs. They weren’t that much less, but I couldn’t stomach the Rene Herse cost and in every photo I’ve seen of them they look pretty bulbous. Not that these don’t, but I think it’s less so. On paper they are the same size, but maybe the RH tires have more sidewall. They definitely have a different type of sidewall that’s for sure.
Anyway, here’s what it looks like on a 17mm rim:
Can’t wait to ride these. And yes I will be re-mounting them because the brand name and specs is not centered very well in relation to the valve.
(For this build I have now ordered from Blue Lug, SimWorks and Crust. What have I become…)
