The mistake was buying Panaracer tires rather than DTH like dog intended.

Definitely got suckered in by the aesthetics.

I’ve been a fan of Maxxis in general for a very long time, so I’ll likely give those a shot at some point.

Why do people not like Panaracers though? I always thought they were decent overall.

inconsistent tubeless performance

i feel like i’ve had better luck than most but i’ve still had one or two supposedly-tubeless panarancers that simply would not seal

if you don’t care about tubeless i don’t think there’s anything wrong with them

Went on a mostly pavement ride today on my new 50mm Pathfinder balloon tires, but screwed around a bit on some little hiking trails.

Despite how heavy the tires are, I went up our local mountain and didn’t seem to suffer any time penalty. I’ve done this climb a lot and 245 watts always produces a 16-17 minute time depending on wind and I ended up at 16:30 for today’s effort.

Going down was interesting though. It’s a twisty descent and 40mph is not difficult to hit. Once the wheels start spinning up past 20 mph or so the rotating weight becomes really apparent, and steering effort increases a lot. I’m kind of wishing for 5-10mm more offset in the fork.

Crazy amounts of grip in the corners though. I didn’t push it all that hard but I wouldn’t be surprised if I start setting descent PRs soon.

Off road grip was pretty great as well. I was a bit concerned with the center slick section that I would break the rear wheel loose on roots but the tires impressed me a lot!

Are you able to measure the width? Everything I’ve seen has me convinced that on narrower rims i18-i21 or so the 50mm is a direct replacement for the 47mm. Curious about your rims and width.

I’m overstocked on the older model which is a little annoying as the newer model looks like it has better tread pattern. No complaints with the more feathered older style, but better is better.

At the moment: 49mm casing width on a 22mm internal Hunt 4 Season all-road at 30psi.

I only have about 20 miles on the tires so far. Right after mounting they were 47mm at 40psi so they’ve grown a little bit.

Bought the green gravelkings. They look like bigger versions of the green Michelin cross tires. I can get measurements, but seems like they’re a known quantity.

I love Conti Terraspeeds in 700x40 for the mix of road/dirt that I ride but the rear is constantly weeping from nicks and holes in the tread and I seem to wear them down pretty quick.

I could just replace the rear but I have room for 700x45s, what else is working for people these days?

Tufo Thundero or Swampero in 44 are pretty good.

To save buying two new tires I just grabbed another Conti terra speed, partly because they are usually easy to set up with my floor pump but this one needed the compressor. Glad my neighbor was home and let mw use his.

Runny Ass scientific test protocol.

First blood for the 32er in the Unbound Xl. Mind you he could have probably won on a 26er.

The guy who won everything ultra won again, after pushing his bike for 10 miles and two of his competitors ending up in the hospital for stitches.

The other one made 10th and was 25 minutes back and last of the 5 man group of 6th-10th.

Weighed the lightly used ExtraTerrestrials I picked up on FBM. With a smattering of sealant they came in at 1090g and 1100g, which is a little over the claimed weight of 1070 grams (29 x 2.5, slate sidewalls).
