I think these reens are finally cooked

Just dumped 2 oz of sealant into them and they’re still losing air out of the sidewall. They’re probably 10 years old so I can’t fault them too much lol.

Very minor thumping at the start of the ride got significantly worse by the end. Had thought it might be a sealant blob or something but turned out this Pathfinder Pro from 2021 which has been on 3 different bikes and achieved North of 5,000 miles decided it had enough.

Picture taken at 40psi, broken cords somewhere inside.

Tempted to give these a try. Even with tubes they’d be 300g lighter than tubeless Vee Speedsters (and that’s not accounting for the weight of sealant).

WTB has released aero gravel tires. History as our guide, this means other companies will soon be offering really good aero gravel tires.

They have some notable first/early mover releases which end up being the low-point for that product segment.

WTB Nanoraptor - 29" MTB
WTB Nano - Tubeless 700c Gravel
WTB Road Plus - 650b All-Road
WTB Aero Gravel

The logical champion in 5 years would be Continental or Schwalbe I guess.

LOL went with the :jan: approach of riding their gravel tires around the concrete apron of a velodrome to validate the aerodynamics.

Is this heavy?

Maybe, the criteria isn’t really set.

Dubnital Race/Race 2.2 610
Thunder Burt Super Race 2.1 545
Pathfinder 50 580
Pathfinder 2.2 630
RS Pro 50 585
RX Pro 50 615
Caracal Race 50 630
Rene Herse 2.2 595/545 for EL
RH 2.2 slick 530/485

Seems that way, though the UL 650b 48mm jan tires I finally took off my fop chariot the other day weighed around 600 grams due to all the sealant I had to pump into them over the years.

They started out at around 400.

Mine weigh 640g each :colbert:

Black or tan sidewall? Some speculation that the tan sidewall has less rubber but I’m unconvinced.

Black.

I bought them BNIB from a private seller on eBay. My suspicion is that they bought them, weighed them, and then listed for sale since they’re so overweight.

Interesting. I have a ton of both sidewall colored prev generation pathfinders but they’re all used so no point in weighing now. Will have to pay attention as I get into the new generation as I’ll be buying each.

I know hookless rims call for tubeless tires, is it fine to use them with tubes? (ie butyl or tpu)

Think so, as long you abide the pressure limits/recommendations

I thought that hookless became possible due to like slightly tighter ISO spec on tubeless beads? Not looking into this, just gonna put it out there.

I have a pair of hookless 26” carbon rims and I’ve long toyed with the idea of putting one on a cargo bike but haven’t because I can’t get a straight answer about the tubeless/tube issue.

As I understand it, whether or not you run a tube, you should be running a tubeless-compatible tire that is approved for a hookless rim. Not all tubeless tires are rated for this use case.

just retroactively checked and both my Grand prix 5000 S TR 30mm and the Specialized S-Works Terra 2Bliss Ready 33mm I’ve used ARE indeed hookless approved

I always wring my hands over which casing Ron or Jan think suits tubeless trail duty…and end up just going back to Schwable or Conti as I just know they get the tightness of fit and sidewall thickness spot on for the trade-offs on durability and ride. The newer Dub Trails strike the balance well - thin as I would go for angular rock stuff whilst not being overly buzzy on the road.

SBHs were far better than my GK Slicks…and I think that’s where Jan gets the nod, but leave the trail knobby design to the bigger players is my 2c. I commute in on JuniperRidge 3 times a week, and I just can’t see buying them again.

There are so many tires that have come out in the last 5 or so years that utterly decimate the competing RH tire.

Conti Terra Speed and Challenge Getaway > any RH knobby

Challenge Strada Bianca, Conti GP5k or Terra Comp > any RH 700 slick 45mm and under.

The RH SBH is almost an outlier but I’d say the Conti Terra Hardpack still outclasses it but not by the large margin of the 700c stuff.

Dude is borderline irrelevant outside of reenactment use cases and I’m guessing Ultradynamico has peeled off a significant percentage of his remaining business in this realm.
